3D headache

Hollywood is, again, betting on 3D as the saviour of the cinema. Like many sequels it probably won't work.

I feel the same way. I guess it is worth watching movies such as Avatar on 3D, but paying R60 a ticket to watch anything else in 3D is simply too expensive. Money talks, and we'll see if 3D gimmickry pays off this time.

We have watched many 3d movies and each time we go, we have to pay a premium for those 3d glasses. Now, with a family of 4, needless to say, we have over around 30 glasses sitting around. Why don't price the ticket a bit less, and you buy the glasses separately (if you don;t already have a pair). Such a waste of plastic for a environmentally sensitive age!

My two sons and I only pay R30 total (with our Discovery Vitality Movie Cards) to see any 3D movie!

That's the way to go.... and I only bother with movies that I know will justify it... like Avatar.

I simply could not be bothered with the others.

The other thing the movie houses need to do is to get realistic on their refreshments pricing... R25 for a cooldrink and a coke is just outrageous!

I haven't seen one 3D movie. Show it in 3D without the need for glasses charge me the same price as 2D and i will bring my debit card... i know i know you dont accept cheques otherwise my movie would be free!! :)

I have to disagree with the article that Hollywood profits are under threat because despite the increase in "piracy", Holywood boxoffice totals have been on the increase for the past few years. So despite being able to download movies, watch them on DVD or even wait for the television debut, people are still going to the movies. I often get the feeling Hollywood doesn't understand the nature of its own business.

I have not bothered to watch a 3D movie yet ... to do that I've got to travel 70 kilometers for my nearest 3D cinema, easier to drive 10 k's for 2D and a 3rd of the price

Yip, R30 bucks on discovery...Toy story's 3D was a bit lacking....Avatar was the best!!!

I disagree about Toy Story 3 - it was done subtly to great effect to aid in depth of the scene. It added a sense of realism to the movie without being over-the-top and distracting. I can't say the same for the Step Up 3D preview we saw before the movie...

3D movies are a waste of time and resource (i agree with the total waste of plastic, just reuse the old glass frames or something) oh and lets not forget about the money. If a movie isn't absolutely making use of the extra 3D dimension then it shouldn't even be released in 3D. What's the point of watching a 3D movie if it doesn't make you wanna duck under your seat or move your head out of the way of an oncoming bullet or something. Otherwise they should stop wasting everyone's money and keep it in 3D! as easy as pie!

Does anyone else get a headache from watching 3d movies?
luckily I did not get headache from watching the 3D movie... went last week with my daughter.... I guess the specs can become heavy and combersome/irritating after a while for some people, especially if u already wearing specs to see.
I'm surprised that some guys pay extra for watching the 3D movie, we paid the same as any other movie, and the specs were free ... (also on Discovery Vitality though)
the 3D was good, interesting how they do it.... but yeah... can be a novelty that wears off soon.
don't think I'd be willing to pay more than 20% extra for it, over a standard 'flat' movie

Yep. Half way through and I'm itching to take off the glasses to give my head a rest. Taking off the glasses to look @ a blur just makes it worse :/

Shees u okes are so full of it ! 3D is the way things will go - like it or not...

I actually think 3D is great - especially in FULL HD. The Cinama's version of 3D is still in SD - nice but not great - I agree !

As with any new tech - it is expensive to start off with - but prices will come down eventually once the novelty wears off.

I say: GO 3D !

Think the writing might be on the wall for cinemas as well.

Is there still drive-ins operating? I know of a couple which closed down - except for the one at Menlyn.

I take with my old pair of 3D glasses, they sit much more comfortably than the new SHARP edged one's, goodness knows why they made it that way sigh
