A PORT Elizabeth man has won an internet website’s countrywide photography competition with an atmospheric picture of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at night.

Marc Sing Key, 23, submitted a picture of the stadium taken the night before the July 10 third-place playoff between Germany and Uruguay to the competition organised by the website MyBroadband, which sought Fifa World Cup-related images ranging from stadium pictures to snaps of fans.

The winner received a cash prize of R500, with R300 for the runner-up and R200 for third place.

“It is really a boost in confidence,” Sing Key said. “I will definitely enter more competitions now.”
Sing Key, who is an electrician by profession, discovered he liked photography in 2007 while “playing around” with his parents’ simple camera.

“I moved up from that to an entry level SLR camera.”

Sing Key estimates that he has spent R40000 on his hobby in the last three years, and he is planning to put his prize money towards new equipment.

“Although R500 is nice to win, you can’t really buy a new piece of equipment with it. A tripod alone starts at R1000.”

Sing Key, who keeps his eye in by documenting parties he attends, dreams of being a professional photographer.

“I especially want to be a sports or motor sports photographer,” he said.

No, not one of the free weekly's, but the daily "The Herald" (owned by Avusa) serves the Eastern Cape. Daily sales of over 250 000. First published in 1846.

Thank you very much guys!! I feel honoured to be featured in the newspaper for the right reasons and not for some shady deals or anything illegal :D

Alan, the guy over exaggerated the figure a little. But I had a casual job with some good commission and I was a student so not a lot of expenses to worry about
