Telkom’s new ADSL pricing: How it compares to other ISPs

Web Africa's 1 gig is R59pm, not R49pm. But the top-up prices are great.

Strangely, WebAfrica has a 4gig package for R199 per month, but if you get the 1gig and buy a 3gig top up, you get exactly the same thing for only R104.

In the same way you can get the 11gigs package for R490pm, but if you get the 1gig and top up with 10gigs, you only pay R209 for the same thing.

I just don't get it. It defies logic. Why don't they just reprice their packages and make themselves more competitive? Or are there too many suckers out there?

If you take telkoms adsl line rental and have to go elsewhere u need to match about R15 /gb + the local 30 gb (which in some cases is pretty useless unless u use local news servers). That's on the do 3 package of course. So I would say it's not a bad effort.

Considering the local Gb it helps to add to the benefit but still. Better than Mweb? We have to wait and see. Another consideration of course is the saix/sat3 connection!

U must be one of the power-ists. I cannot begin to imagine how you can such more than 1.5 GB a day.

Come join the party!

What is the cheapest way to get your DSL line at 3.. . . .

Wits:) and UCT:o have Internet access open to allow students and stuff to do much of what they like. You could not have possible :erm:blown a gig through refreshing.

Well at least we know the shaping is nowhere as bad as mweb's. There are other things that are important besides price. Maybe one day service providers will realize this.

To be honest fine they have done something, but its still rather pathetic.... Im not saying they should all of a sudden have uncapped, but come on 9GB. . . Woohooo lets have a party.. They really need to rethink there ****, i would say for a very low end user at least 15GB (500mb a day) and then a mid user 30GB (1GB a day) would be a step in the right direction.

Personally im over this whole uncapped thing, its really stupid i hate being shaped and trottled. Someone please bring out a capped solution that can give me 50GB to 75GB a month for a reasonable price.. Many of the guys on uncapped are using way more than this!!!

Afrihost 5 GB R145 R29/GB
TelkomInternet 5 GB R149 R49/GB

Add to this is the fact that AfriHost often give 2 for 1 deals at the end of the month, which we will never see Telkom do.

Correct me if I'm wrong but R239 for 9 gigs equals R26,5 per gig not the R49 per gig that the article states?

If Telkom actually split local and international bandwidth into separate usage before being capped this would be a great deal.

It's absolute trash that as the country's main telecoms provider Telkom cannot offer the most competitive products. Their low-end offerings are garbage, and their higher-end offerings look deceptively cheap, but should one need to top up by a few gigs, one is basically screwed.
