Digital TV transition in SA

Who the cares about Digital TV?

Whatever we do end up getting, I just wish the world would standardize on one system. Here is an opportunity with a new product that can be implemented with one standard the world over. I hate this incompatibility thing like we have with DVD formats, electricity voltage, AC plug types etc etc. I would like to have a portable tv here that I can take to the USA and use there.

Well, I concur with Shred - Who the cares? There's nothing to watch regardless of how the signal is delivered.

There are more Digital TV articles on this site than anything else. And that includes the "Neotel plans" ones.

Well seeing as you can't mass produce the brazilian cable boxes, or get ANY form of recording eqquipment for your PC, we should care, some of us have systems that would be wasted if we use the brazilian/japanese standard

Not only is that a sweeping generalisation, it's also completely wrong.

While you may not be interested in those two topics there are plenty of folks out there that are. There's also plenty of other tech news on the site. If there's something specific you feel hasn't been getting the attention it deserves, feel free to suggest it.

We should stick with DVB-T/DVB-T2 for obvious reasons:

1) More exports for our industries

2) DVB-T2 is the only second generation standard in the World, more robust than isdb-t, more chanel capacity than isdb-t, and made for 8 mhrz chanels. Needs no change in frequency plans and no adptation to run in South Africa.

3) Set-top-boxes are much cheaper than isdb-t.

4) It´s not fair that our country is submited to solve Brazil´s scale problem.

5) We´ve already chose DVB-T. Not only we have know how in this standard, but we spent a lot of money to lounch it. If it wasn´t for the corrupt Brazilian lobby and the DOC, we would have watched the World Cup in HD via DVB-T, just like Australia and othe DVB-T nations. Brazil and the DOC messed the whole thing!

I just want to try out my DAB radio without travelling to Europe. I was hoping the frequency bands would be freed up by now and got a Cowon D2+ with DAB some time ago. If we now end up with the Brazilian one I for one will be disappointed, but it was a gamble.

i just bought a little box with twin digital receivers, but with only crap on air won't be bothered to connect a aerial to it.
