Mede8er v4 FirmWare Update

What do you want to record?

SD DSTV isn't really worth recording (unless you're watching it on a laptop screen), and HD DSTV you're not going to record with a USB TV Card....

When my wife and my programs overlap, children's stuff to entertain the daughter and so on.

Yeh - but remember, most of these devices don't change channels to record the channel you want to record, you have to do it manually....

Many do change channels.

Currently we just set it up manually (on pc and on decoder) takes about 5 minutes to set up for 15+ programs.

Also I have no interest in permanent storage as the quality is not as good as it can be, 500GB is plenty space for recording and showshifting for what we do.

I agree with Lance.... To be honest, I have not seen the need to record anything from TV or DSTV in South Africa. You can get it all off the internet.

I'm with you!!

The whole point of a media player is that you have a large library of the latest movies that you want to watch. Why the hell would you want to record what is on TV?

Agree!

Hi, guys I am new to all this. Looking for a media player... I was looking at the WD TV Live HD but I then read that it has a problem playing mkv files that was created with the new versions of MKVToolnix (something to do with "header removal compression"). Although they are apparently working on a fix. But since then I've been looking at other players.
Now I am looking at the mede8er med500x. But it seems to have the same problem with mkv and "header removal compression". http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,1896.0.html Can you guys confirm that this have not been fixed? Or that it will be fixed?
Apparently there is a way to remux (spelling?) it so that it will work but I would rather have it work straight out of the box.

Thanks guys.

Never come across that problem yet. My firmware on my Mede8er is 3.04 ... the latest.

The scary part it that it might be a hardware limitation on the realtek chips.

AC Ryan Staff:
...
We have reported all we know about this issue to Realtek since it is out of our hands to fix it on our side.

Now the question is, is it something which can be fixed by a firmware (by Realtek) or it is totally a hardware issue where there is no way it can be fix by a new firmware.

AC Ryan Staff:
That we don't know right now. Since we don't work with Realtek. We can only report what we would like to be changed and then hope they can solve it. During this process we get very little information. There is no reason to blame realtek, ac ryan or matroska. The reality is that there is a issue with this and we have done everything we can, but also other realtek based mediaplayer/companies probably have also done the same.

This is probably the most known issue currently and we can only wait and see if there will be a permanent fix for next SDK.

If someone has some spare time on their hand please test if the player can play the files mentioned here: http://www.matroska.org/downloads/test_w1.html

I see that VLC player 1.0.5 plays all expect nr 7 of those files, and the progress bar doesn't work correctly on all. Would be interesting to see how some of the other players would respond to those. Apparently the Popcorn Hour C-200 had the header compression thing fixed in its firmware.

Hi All Mede8ers

The long awaited V4 is finally here.

This release has taken a lot longer than we had ever dreamed as we had huge SDK problems with V4 and had to change to a later SDK that also had its share of problems - We are pleased to announce that most problems are now resolved. We think we now have a very fast and responsive release that is very stable under most conditions. We welcome you to try it and give us your feedback.

I had some problems myself. The update did not take well the first few times. It got to the boot screen after the update and just sat there.

I had to go to that link and follow the instructions to first patch the boot loader and then re-apply the update.

Hopefully things will go smoother for you guys.
