Windows Phone 7 - what can we expect?

A little too late!
I was once a Windoze Mobile fanboy, but Apple has shown me the light. (Regular OS updates, great interface, etc. - not necessary to pick up scraps from XDA Developers anymore)

So where is the link to the demo video? Should be great to see a recent demo.

Not tech savvy but using a Iphone 3gs and HTC hd2. The HTC is running on winmo 6.5 and the ui and rest of the workings is as good as the Iphone. Hope it will be able to use the winmo 7

are the companies that use windows phone 7 going to have to pay anything to use it, or is it also free software?

This could be set for Epic Fail. The OS' are already established - Blackberry, Android, Symbian (like it or not) and iOS. - so what fantastic new things do they bring to the table?

AFAIK it's a few dollars a phone, but that's more for the indemnification and licenses that come with the OS - ie. MS act as a shield so you don't get issues like Apple suing HTC over Android, or Sun suiing over Java, or whoever happens to crawl out of the woodwork next with a patent infringement wanting a piece of open source software profits.

Rewind 3 years: iOS doesn't have a chance because the OSes are already established - Blackberry, Symbian and WinMo.
Rewind 2 years: Android doesn't have a chance because the OSes are already established - Blackberry, Symbian and iOS
Rewind a few months: Meego doesn't have a chance because the OSes are already established - Blackberry, Symbian, Android and iOS

If Windows Phone 7 is good, it'll carve out a space in the market. Simple. Same goes for Meego. The jury is still out.

agree with elvis, as far as i see it, everytime a person gets an 'upgrade' they choose a new phone, chance to take market share happens right there.

plus the OS looks awesome, better than android, and unlike iOS, it will have true multitasking..., it will carve it's own share in time.

Windows Phone 7 could really take off for one reason - developer support. If MS is smart they will ship every version of Visual Studio with the toolset to create Windows 7 apps as they did with Windows Mobile - this will give the huge amateur/hobbyist and professional VS/.Net developer base instant access to create apps without the learning curve and restrictions of developing for Symbian/iOS/Android. Not that they will mostly be particularly good apps, though.
