Consumer Protection and Companies Act delayed

I.e. they're going to laugh at the consumers and call us fools?
 
Typical... and I was waiting to take FIAT South Africa too the cleaners, guess I will have to wait a little longer :)

The postponement, however, only relates to the general implementation of the various provisions of the two Acts. It does not extend to the establishment of the two institutions required to implement or administer both legislation - namely the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission and the National Consumer Commission.

"These institutions will come into existence and commence with administrative operations as stipulated in the Acts in the third quarter of this financial year. The public and stakeholders will thus be able to approach them for assistance and guidance as soon as their establishment is announced in due course," said the department.

So no consumers don't get the protection of the act but don't worry we're setting up a bunch of bureaucrats with offices and salaries to administer the particulars of the act that is not yet enforceable. :wtf:

I'm not surprised. Both the CPA and the Companies Act have problems and we're still waiting for the CPA's regulations to come out.
 
It was probably Peter Cheales. HelloPeter would probably flop if there were official avenues for complaint.

Nah. The complaints will just shift one rung up the ladder. People will complain through the 'official avenues' about some or other service and then will complain on HelloPeter when the 'official avenues' don't work.

I didn't even think of that.

So there's Telkom, and smokoo.co.za. What about TV licenses? People who don't watch SABC still have to pay for it.

Hey leave Peter out of this. That site has solved a lot of my problems. Even had Standard Bank remove a document from their bond pile due to me pointing out certain technical flaws

I would imagine the SABC will be exempt as government is exempt, no way .gov could live up to consumer/citizen service requirements. Telkom, although 40% gov owned, is run as a pseudo/mock company isn't it, so I'd imagine they would have to comply with the Act.
 
Hi, the Government is not exempt from the Consumer Protection Act (as a SUPPLIER) it is only NOT considered a CONSUMER in the Act... so there will definitely be "room for action" as consumers of governments products and services...
