MWEB launches 10 Mbps uncapped business ADSL service

MWEB Business today unveiled their first 10 Mbps uncapped ADSL services aimed at SMEs and business clients

Hmmm, maybe MWeb should focus on sorting out all their upgrading issues before launching something like this? What's the point of launching a new product if there's already problems with the current products?

They're busy improving their network, they're performing upgrades on Sunday night. Personally I have been super-happy with their 4mbps uncapped since it's launch.

Not a bad price compared to the IS offering of R 7499 monthly ex VAT.

Wonder how the actual experience will differ in reality between the two providers.

Not even an option if you can't get a 10mbps line from Telkom. It must be extremely frustrating for ISPs like MWEB, to be so reliant on a company like Telkom, to be able to offer a product.

Great news that MWEB has unveiled their 10 Mbps uncapped business offering. We also can’t get 10 Mbps so we can’t test it, but we will try to make a plan to take it for a spin.

Next stop the 10 Mbps uncapped consumer offering :D

Don't think we'll see a consumer grade 10mbps uncapped offering from Mweb anytime soon.

i thought the ipc and or telkom grid was not ready, did telkom provide the needed upgrades or are we now going to suffer more to provide padding for the 10meb uncapped ?

Neither this article nor the mweb site have information on the upload speeds. Sure the download speeds are good, but if your business has a mail server, webserver, etc. what type of speeds do you get?

the speed of your adsl line...

My line syncs at 10mb down and 1mb up - I believe this is the standard max rate achievable that Telkom upgraded to.

Edit: whether or not Mweb accounts run at 1mb up I don't know, but I don't see why not..

Probably the standard theoretical 1mbps upload, I think that is what Telkom advertised it as being.

so 10mbs upload according to you ? speed of line is hardly the speed at which you get uploads btw...

Obviously not, was a bit unclear. Depends what upload speed it sync at. Could be anything from 512kbs to 1024kbs. It should theoretically work at these speeds if it is not throttled I believe?
Besides hosting you mail, webserver on an ADSL line is never advised.

:( I hope we will get free upgrades to 10mbps Uncapped/Shaped for the regular consumers...eh doubt it but I hope it comes very soon.

don't get me wrong on this post - i think its great we are now seeing 10Mb/s lines
and our internet is starting to meet international speeds

but

i can't believe its going to cost an extra R3000 per month for them (what i believe is all they do) to change a setting on their side
the exchange is already set to work on 10Mb/s (which is done by telkom - probably for nothing) and all they have to do is set the syncing ratios to 10Mb/s on their side

data cost for them will probably still stay them same
and they are using their own network - so they don't have to pay more for national bandwidth

the bandwidth prices are going to drop again with Eassy dropping their prices and Seacom are looking at dropping their prices

so how do they justify such a difference in price
i would be interested to here back from someone at mweb about how they calculate costs and what they look at when calculating what the customer will be charged
does telkom charge more from the exchange? is there a charge from the exchange?

it's the same for all the packages
look at the difference in pricing between them
they are all the same package except the amount of bandwidth available
the data cost stays the same and all they do from what i understand is change the settings to get the equipment to operate at 10Mb/s

i'm not trying to be nasty - it just doesn't seem to be competitive
we are going back to over priced internet access which is what we are trying to get away from
