Hi guys,

I saw this billboard over the weekend just after Allendale off-ramp towards PTA, as the title says "drive a new car from R799 a month", no deposit and no residual.
So what is the catch here, i would really like to know??

If it's a Chana, Chery or Tata then there's probably no catch.

I sms'ed one of those guys to find out what's the deal, just out of curiosity. It was a Chery QQ I think, and the R799 is for the first 12 months. For the remaining 60 (or 48?) months it's like R1899 p/m or something. FAIL.

Thought as much, i wonder if the car will even last for the first 12 months. But shouldn't the advert state that its for the first 12 months???

Cherry is actually reliable. Might even be my next little car for going to the shop. My wife has a couple of clients that put on 3-4K a month on the car and no problems. Most of the part are compatible with Daewoo's (actually some panel beaters will use the Cherry doors on Daewoos).

Then again, 12yrs back everyone was going on how bad Hyundai was, yet you still alot of '97 models in excellent condition.

some of these offers are legit ! they lower your installment by advertising on your rear windshield. so thats takes off R400 to R600 of your monthly bill. there's a dealer in PTA that does that with tata's, cheris, atos etc

Pity thats illegal now as its not a company delivery vehicle.

About these people running this type of business, just make sure you read the fine-print before you sign any document. You pay the cheap installments because they wrap your car with whichever company wants to pay for advertising. After the contract period is up they take the car away from you.

dont do it!!! didnt you see the report on carte blanche about this?? Apparently the monthly payment subsidy just disappears after 2-3 months and you get stuck with a debit order for the full car payment coming off!!!
See here for the article:

Just read it - and it's miff and siff.

Read the contract before signing on the dotted line... caveat emptor.

Is it realy true? can you get a new car for R799 PER MONTH?
In reality no.

3 Reasons:
1) Petrol
2) Service/Maintenance costs (you cannot skip on these)
3) Insurance, the car is financed and you have NO choice but to take comprehensive insurance. Part of your purchase agreement is that you have comprehensive insurance and you won't get the car until they confirm you have the insurance. Furthermore you will not be able to cancel the insurance unless proof is provided you have another insurer with comprehensive insurance.

So yes the CAR will cost you R799, but running costs and insurance is not covered under the R799

You also have to do a minimum of 2000KM/month upload hi-res photos at the end of each month showing the km's and the date on the photos and the add is still in place and the car is presentable.... and a whole host of other things.

R500 a month for a new Car

Is any body out there that has one of those car deals that you pay no deposit and its a new car for R500 a month. I just want to know what the catch is on those deals, and is there a be-loon payment included. The deal sounds nice on the back on the cars window, but what is the catch.
