SAOL Clients.. Question about the speed today

Hi SAOL people..

My nntp speeds are bad. I'm on the uncapped option. I have checked with Telkom ISP account, works 100%. But the SOAL nntp speed is slow (4-5kbs). Looks like http is fine..

Anyone else?
 
i am experiencing the same problem. i am currently on the R499 uncapped option with SAOL which supposed to be an unshaped accout as well.

I just spoke to the SAOL call centre and they moved me to the shaped option where everybody else is paying R329.00

hey guys im in the same boat , been having bad speeds since the username change , p2p is terrible so terrible , ive emailed leon and they said neethi would help and heard nothing ... i think ive also been moved to the shaped Realm they call it :( this is def not UNSHAPED

Well im not sure as yet, they said they will get back tome on Monday. but if they dont move me back to unshaped account than i dont see the benefits of staying with SAOL. i can probably move to Axxess with a 512k shaped account for a similar price.

i am currently downloading on P2P at 10 -15 kb where i used to download at 30 -35 speeds

this is NOT ON!!!!

There is zero benefit if they move you over to a shaped account.
I must add that this is utterly disgusting if this is the case.

Very very underhanded.
I played by their stupid rules, and in return you get offered a ball of dung.....

BTW, downloading via P2P and downloads are at my normal 38Kbps rate.
Latency is higher then normal though.
I have not yet been asked to change my username yet so im still not happy about whats happening to you guys, as i reckon its only a matter of time until i have to follow suit.

agreed on 10-15k on p2p sometimes its like 7k if lucky and i hear nntp is also messed up , so yeah another isp is sounding like a good idea
 
I seriously hope this is fixed tomorrow. NNTP is still "broken".

Spoke to SAOL and despite the fact that we signed up for 386 unshaped uncapped, if you "abuse" the internet, you are throttled.

I just went onto their website and read the uncapped terms and conditions:

ADSL uncapped may have a higher latency than that of a capped account.
ADSL uncapped is a best effort service.
ADSL uncapped allows a customer unlimited access but a customer will not use the ADSL uncapped in a manner that will affect other customer's access, use and or enjoyment of Saol.com's network.
Saol.com is entitled in it's own discretion to monitor customer's usage and to control the unlimited access without notice, should Saol.com in it's sole discretion deem it appropriate under the circumstances.
Your usage is measured against other uncapped users within the same bandwidth size pool. So if you use your bandwidth steadily and do not try and abuse the network, you should be fine.
If you abuse the service and max out your line for hours at a time, the priority on your account lessens.
In order to ensure quality of service Saol.com may enforce throttling based on monthly usage.

Yeah, Supreme i reckon we ask for a discount as we are overpaying on our accounts.

They do not add in these terms, what figure of GB's are considered abuse.

Zero transparency and it certainly doesn't put me at ease.

AGREED. To me what is even worse is that they unilaterally implemented these T&C's without letting us know- I know for a fact there was no fair use policy when I signed up in Feb.
 
i had a chat to this called ''ISP'' after getting dc once on the phone , getting hung up while on the switchboard , they even told me the guy would phone me back , ya whatever !!
anyways they told me that my account has been throttled/shaped due to my excessive usage of 60gb Max a month which i don't see is abuse. Why sell a product that says UNCAPPED and then u have a limit , what BS , there customer support is horrendous( i hope Neethi you reading this) , and they shape me after paying a full month for unshaped

damn straight !!!
After all this so looking forward going to mweb or openweb

Lets all leave at the same time and leave a crater from the impact!

Staatkat who once left SAOL, went onto the Openweb gold package and after a few weeks remained quite happy.

I doubt they would transfer our lines as i heard they terminate.
 
I am also on the SAOL uncapped option for R499 .... and have also been experiencing terrible speeds recently .... as for nntp ... that just keeps getting worse by the day ....
cached stuff comes down fast ... but uncached does not even come down :(
 
%#$#$ SAOL. Still being throttled.

I only did 44 Gig last month. I have a telkom Account to avoid going over 60 gigs... Going to phone them
 
FCK you SAOL.

I just spoke to the help desk. She says there is too many people on the pool, now they throllte etc.(WTF). I told her I only did 40Gig last month...

Nah.. time to move from SAOL. I told her thanks for informing us of about the policy change. I will move my line away from them. They won't see a penny from me.

Edit: They got the balls to 'sell me a 30Gig account' for the price of the uncapped. And the 30Gig is shaped too.
IF anyone at SOAL is reading this ... BITE ME MOFOs. You (had) one pissed off customer. I want my money back. I used 10Gig for 499. I don't think so.
