Mine's the hardware model C1, I can't say if that's the case for all South African models, but that's the one that's been updated. if you think you have one of the other dsl2640u models, browse through the ftp folders to http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/ADSL/ to find your version, for example:
DSL-2640U
DSL-2640U_BRU_C
DSL-2640U_BRU_C2
DSL-2640U_BRU_CB
DSL-2640U_BRU_D

you could have looked it up yourself, but here's a google translation of the release notes at:

see if any of the updates address any issues you may have.

How to choose the firmware for the DSL

How to choose the firmware for the DSL-2640U?

Before the firmware update procedure is necessary to clarify the hardware revision (H / W) of your device.
order to correctly identify the hardware revision of the modem look at the label on the underside of the device. Find it on the line that starts at "H / W Ver .:". Letters and digits indicate the hardware revision.

Hi
EXTRA VIRGIN NOOB HERE
Please advise as to why my D-Link is almost dead - so slow it disconnets everything - dne no updates as I haven't a clue - no problems with ADSL or Bandwith.

Please assist.

difficult to help with li
mited information. You may get a better response from the forum if you post a new thread with a subject such as "d-link router disconnects all the time" as this thread is more about a specific model and your issues could be more generlised - e.g. noise on the line.

Give details such as model number, is it wireless, is it the wireless part that disconnects all the time or is it connected by network cable. some routers have an auto-disconnect feature for when the connection is idle. good luck.

Just a friendly warning...do not upload firmware through Google Chrome - I got a fatal error that way. Go the safe route and use IE

hello,
can i update my firmware (dsl -2640U... H/W: C2....F/W:ME_2.01)from "C2/ME_2.01" to "C2/RU_2.05" ? is it possible??!! (F/W is not the same!)

As long as the H/W version is the same, you should be fine.

Is there any particular reason why you'd want to update the firmware?

I had to update my DSL-2500U's firmware, because the Dynamic DNS option was missing, amongst other things...

I had no idea it was so dangerous to update the Dlink 2640U's firmware.

I did update to 29-11-2010 in December with Opera(And made sure the H/W version was the same though).

Knowing this now, i don't think it was worth the risk...

hello i have a big problem with dsl 2640u
i fell that the router dont work very well
i had a several pb with DNS and DHCP to fix those i installed the last update of firmware C1 version 1.25 after the installation the router reboot permanentely with duration of 3s

my question is how can i repair may router

configuration of my router
model no dsl 2640U
h/w c1

can't tell you how to repair your router other than to press reset oe unplug it for 10 minutes.

In my experience the dns and dhcp problems are not always the router's problem. I just had a similar issue with a Mega100 router where an XP pc with wireless USB dongle could not access the internet. Instead of playing with the router or its firmware, I changed the primary DNS address on that PC's connection to be the same as the router's gateway address (the address you type in your browser when you want to login to the router setup). I left the secondary DNS blank. No problems after that.
