MTN launches HTC Android firware updates over the air

Hmm, hopefully they bring out all the android updates soon. Good news though

Why htc would not let you use wifi to do your upgrade a long time ago defies logic.
 
I'm still baffled by this. The Desire 2.2 update was released a few days after I got my Desire, and I got the update on the Sunday. I got my phone from an MTN branded (not MTN owned as far as I'm aware) store.
 
This is good news, but HTC are the kings of vague...
No mention of an update for the HTC legend which is higher spec (arguably newer) than both the wildfire & Hero.
This "rollout will continue throughout 2011" statement worries me, the last word from them was that these Froyo updates would happen in Q4 2010.

Leaf / HTC / MTN - please take note & follow through with the timing of your statements regarding firmware updates or you will have irate customers & create bad public sentiment

Yeah, all my Apple iOS updates also came free over the air. :rolleyes:
 
Wonder how many customers will be having issues updating OTA?

People simply don't trust anything Leaf says about HTC updates, so not much news here.
 
A bit late don't you think?

I have a Desire and I have been running 2.2 for almost as long as I've had the phone, got to love the XDA Developers. I couldn't wait for MTN and HTC in SA to eventually roll out the updates the world saw millenia ago.

Fail I say, especially with 2.3 released to the world.
 
What does MTN have to do with it, if you are supposed to do the upgrade via Wi-Fi?

Any other network could then also have taken credit for it.

Also, haven't this OTA upgrade facility being available on higher-end Nokia phones for quite some time?

Yes, what about the Legend! Android 2.3 is out and we STILL haven't received Froyo. I'm fed up with Leaf.
 
so if you with Vodacom, you are still boned. Sigh, time to take the risk of rooting, if it bombs, i will never buy a HTC again.

The update is 150MB, so at R2/MB, expect to pay R300 to download it over 3G

FAIL: The idea was to offer a FREE OTA 3G download.

Rather go to XDA and get the latest with extra features and bug fixes.

don't know which phone you have, but search for one click root and your phone.
