Hi

Is anyone experiencing the same problem as me? I used the word blackouts instead of disconnects because it is not disconnects. It has been going on through the whole of January. I will be busy browsing, and all of a sudden the pages would just keep on loading and my mail program would timeout. Router is still connected and adsl account is still connected. It continues for that like 20 - 30 seconds, when I click refresh after this short wait, the pages reload and everything continues as normal, its as if the connection becomes non responsive, then responsive again.

As I said, the router along with the ADSL account is connected, nothing reconnects.

This is really frustrating and starting to become a problem.

I am on a 20 gig capped account from them on a 4MB adsl line and I sync at the normal 4MB full speeds.

When this happens again log into the router and check what the status is.. Either it will show it is connected or something!!
Or try pinging the router when it does that again.
Let me know

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. But I am already doing this, the moment it happens I log into the router always (to make sure I can access it and that it is not a network or wifi problem on my part). I also check whether the adsl account is connected (to make sure it is not the line) and it shows connected. The connection time keeps on ticking away. After a while if I refresh, everything is back to normal, and the adsl account is still connected with the connection timer on the router still runnning on.

Any suggestions? I dont do windows updates and haven't done any changes to my system since october, it just started at the beginning of january, and it is happening with other computers on my network aswell.

Thanks

Keep track of your public IP address (assigned by Afrihost) before the blackout and after. A change in IP address is a definite indicator of a disconnect rather than a black-out.

Have you tried other ISP accounts on your line? It could be possible that the problem has nothing to do with Afrihost, and everything to do with your ADSL line and/or the Telkom exchange. The problem could also be with your ADSL modem.

My Afrihost account is very slow as well. My other accounts are all fine. I'm also in Centurion, wonder if it's related?

Edit: Seems to have gone back to normal now :p

You're not the only one brakanjan, I can't tell you how many gigs I wasted this month through downloads that failed.

I had a Telkom techie at my place, he declared it fixed whatever 'it' was. Afrihost report no problems on their network, just to reboot the router etc. which (to their credit) usually solves the problem, but my downloads keep on failing. I suspect it's an IS thing but getting any acknowledgment out of them is like getting Malema to shut up.

Exact same symptoms as you - router periodically loses sync, retries the connection and succeeds but by then my downloads have timed out.

Valis, I'm also in centurion and my Afrihost account is also not up to scratch compared to what it was in December.

evilstebunny, same story with downloads. Luckily I still had lots of bandwidth, but it is very frustrating.

also been having the same issues , busy playing online and i get dc and cant browse int. at all only local sites
and also lots of authentication issues that i saw in the routeron the afri acc , switch to a telkom acc and works fine
i know if i log a ticket they will they everything is fine ....

Ok. I tried another account and must say that it was even worse. So, my apologies to Afrihost. Under the circumstances they are actually going strong.

Seems like the problem is rather with the ADSL lines?

I'm having problems dialing my PPPoE account. I just reset the account password, but it still gives me the "Error 691: Access was denied because the username and/pr password was invalid on the domain." Had it a few times this month already. I usually fixed itself after a half an hour before, but today, it just doesn't want to.

EDIT: It just connected now. Gotta hang on to that connection now.
