WA International Down

@Webafrica: So, what happened to your boast that your ADSL is better than the rest (hence more expensive) because your control your entire network?

Everyone experiences outages Pilgrim ;)
I'll get into some more details a little later - need to keep everyone up to date at this stage.

Just because WA is one of the most expensive ISPS in the country doesn't mean that they don't get outages...

I know everyone has outages, I just recall WA using their better than the others network as a reason to keep their costs high. I cannot find the exact location now, but it was when people asked why Afrihost and MWeb can afford to have such cheap ADSL, WA responded by boasting with their really awesome network that they built.

Funny how they sit with their thumbs up their... and have the audacity to claim "everyone has outages" when it hits them, yet when you complain about pricing they claim they are better?

WA, you try to justify your higher prices with stuff you cannot enforce.

For example, how can your "premium ADSL" be any better than your competitors? When you don't control the local loop, your ADSL is just as good (or bad) as any other provider. When you don't control the upstream, your ADSL is no better than any others.

Quick update here on redundancy:

I've spoken to our Head Network Engineer who corrected my one post, my apologies for posting incorrect information.
We do have SEACOM fail-over, however due to routing issues there are problems in switching this over. More updates to follow.

We have experienced a failure on our primary SAT3 International feed as well as a further failure of our automatic failover to Seacom capacity.

Currently we have Engineers working on both SAT3 and Seacom to bring up some capacity as soon as possible.

So not only do I pay more for my bandwidth from webafrica, I also have to pay for a backup account.
I'm starting think I should just upgrade my afrihost account and dump webafrica, I could get double my current bandwidth and still pay less if I did that.

This is exactly what I have done but went for Cybersmart instead, as I am in Cape Town and IS has far too many issues.
