Multichoice Smart Village takes over service from GTS

This would actually be the 5th service as Midstream Estate!

Started with eTube - was horrible, horrible, failure.
Then it was YSL - and the company was liquidated. Bondev (aka The Mafia) took over some of the assets.
Then it was Vox - was there exactly 2 weeks. Terrible failure - took the authentication servers to our company's internet & email accounts off-line on a Monday-afternoon, 14:00 (i.e. slap-bang in the middle of business hours).
Then it was GTS - semi ok. Had a good call center, but service was quite spotty.
Now it is SmartVillage - what will go wrong this time? Dum dum duuuuummmmm....

BWAHAHAHA good luck with Smart Village. Their connections are notoriously shody, packet loss, high latency etc.

How did you guys know about this? This is the first time I heard about them. Doesn't seem that I have been missing out on a lot anyway. :)

I hear it's expensive too....too bad mweb couldn't take over :(

Isn't Mweb and Multichoice under the same company ... one would expect if Smart Village is a Multichoice subsidiary that they would then use some or all of the services of Mweb as well ?

Smart Village used to use IS as their backbone provider, not sure if they've changed it.

Connectivity over power lines have (had in this case...) a lot of promise, to bad they couldn't make it work...

My condolences to all midstream residents...smartvillage is right up there with Neotel in terms of shoddy service. They compare favorably with Telkom in terms of cost i.e very expensive. Expect lots of downtime and a tiny pipe out of the estate possibly over a single adsl line or some wireless connection.

Just returned from there to help out someone that could not get onto the Internet through their network.

Speedtest reported 4ms latency (forgot which server, but it must have been Midrand) and 3.28Mb/s download speed.

Thats not bad at all.

WT beat dead horse some more.

“The service at Midrand Estates will be supported by the full range of companies within the Multichoice stable, which will ensure that the service will be priced competitively and be in accordance with best practices in the industry,” Bondev said.

Lies, I have a PDF here with me right now that contradicts this statement, the worst of it all is, Mweb is partner of this.

Their bs site: www.smartvillage.co.za.

And my thread : http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/309655-SmartVillage...omg

Should start up a protest of the entire community, I've heard quiete a few people here about the very expensive SmartVillage products.
And no, its not a lie, installation costs R3990, good luck smartvillage ass*****.

I use a cellc stick now, at least they dont try to rip me off.

I  whoosh.

Hi all. I live in centurion and want to move to midstream. I'm wondering, how well does smartvillage work at heritage hill or southdowns? From the description on the smart village website, it sounds awesome. Those with experience with the service, what am I missing?

As a resident of MIdstream, have had the pleasure of using GTS for the past year and a half. My internet was down for at least half a day each day. Service consisted of leaving a voicemail message on an answering service and never getting any help.
All for the princely some of R799 per month for a 5GB connection running at 1mbps. I took the step of reporting their lousy anti-competitive asses to ICASA who, to my surprise were also disinterested.

The irony is that my office is now moving location to a gated office park which is also to be serviced by smart village. Have been promised a high speed uncapped unshaped internet connection. Seems like i'll be sodomized at home and at work now.

Goody.

The Idea is clear so far. It has been bad. It will stay bad or get worse.

So you can't have your own Telkom line with ADSL (uncapped by who-ever you choose in these places)?

Seems down right silly paying R800 p/m where you can have uncapped ADSL 4MB @ around the same price point.... Else go CellC with 5GB at 2Mbps (sometimes faster) for R299 per month... DINOSAURS these "service providers"...
