SEACOM downtime and impact on SA broadband users explained

Nice one mweb. My ordinary browsing is completely unaffected.

I was wondering what's going on. I have connection, but very slow.
 
luckily for Mweb. They had planned maintenance last night for the JHB area. Perfect timing.
 
SEACOM's availability has to a large degree driven consumer ADSL prices down, but it seems clear that any sane ISP has to retain SAT3 bandwidth to ensure their customers aren't left in the dark.

But once WACS is online we'll have even more redundancy, and who knows, maybe even lower prices ?

If you read the article again, it said that the fault is not on Seacom but on SEA-ME-WE-4 . Blaming Seacom is the same as blaming your ISP and saying it is their fault. Or just blame Telkom, as you are using their line from your house :D

Yes, it seems that most of the SEACOM outages are caused by that unreliable piece of crap SEA-SPOT-RUN cable system, but I thought Seacom bypassed that a while ago already and were no longer dependent on them?
 
Update from SEACOM:

“SEACOM experienced a fault on a partner network from 20:57 GMT on 16 March 2011. The fault has been repaired and all customers have been restored.”
 
Telkom sat 3 seems to be the most reliable in this department
 
Lol another Mweb advert. I wonder if Mybb get paid per mention. Its not like mweb is the only isp on seacom...
 
Hmmm... not sure all is working fine, I cannot get onto many international sites at the moment... 11:35... somethings up... or at least down!
 
Not again. Seacom itself was only down once. The rest of the time it is there partner cables...

What ever happened to Eassy?
 
Why are people on this forum saying Seacom cannot be blamed for this failure? Who signed a deal on a crap fibre link, SEA-ME-WE? This is not about who owns what part of the cable but who provides you with the service. The order should be - blame MWEB, MWEB blames Seacom and Seacom, SEA-ME-WE. For all we know, SEA-ME-WE maybe just a scape goat when their could be other bigger issues!

wow man rather just stfu. SEA-ME-WE had a fibre break near Cairo and it affected Seacom and thus ZA clients using Seacom. What's so tough to understand? No need for a conspiracy theory

Hey man, no need to be rude! Not conspiring or implying anything, just a thought. Can you perhaps provide a link that shows SEA-ME-WE-4 under repair, originating from Cairo?
