Last night I was busy looking at an online lecture when dsl went dead.
Usually when it rains my power goes out for a couple of hours. After the rain stopped my power came back on and I connected to the internet.

Usually when it rains my power goes out for a couple of hours. After the rain stopped my power came back on and I connected to the internet.
But immediately I noticed something was the matter:
- Download speeds was like 9KBs instead of 40KBs
- Internet Time-Out's
- Eventually Disconnect and unable to reconnect till the following morning
I tried reporting the problem to 0800 375 375 but the support guy (quite arrogant) told me the Dslam has lots of people connecting happily on there. But couldn't see my router trying to connect.
He was adamant it is ISP related, but is willing to send a truck out if I accepted the unnecessary call out fee. Upon which I told him that this has happened 4 times this year and none of the times were the telkom van at my premises to check on my line, so it must have been in town.
Aparently we can now ask for our money back for "loss of service" so I would like to start requesting fault numbers in the future.
But the problem comes in where the internet is dead during the night time but spontaniously works the next morning. Mostly when it is raining. I wonder if their towers aren't short circuiting with the moisture that might be leaking into the capacitors etc. and this might be causing the problem..
how do I claim for loss of service when the internet is only down during the night time? I paid for uncapped and don't use the uncapped till night time because there are people who needs the bandwith during the day.
What can I do here?
