Hi All,

Just found out our exchange is finally 10Mbit enabled. Tried 10215, 10219, 0800375375. Technical support, new services the works. Ten phone-calls and two hours later :wtf:

Tech support says they can't upgrade my speed, only new services can do that. New services says they do not have an option to upgrade clients from 4 to 10 Mbit on their system.

So what gives? Any help will be appreciated!

I am 150 metres from the exchange, router says the following, so I don't see any line issue relating to an upgrade:

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 22.5 12.0
Attenuation (dB): 6.0 3.5
Output Power (dBm):6.1 0.3
Attainable Rate (Kbps):10944 952

I don't really care what colour whoever is, and today I have probably spoken to people of every spectrum of the rainbow from white as driven snow to those of darkest knight. All were totally useless. I put it down to a lack of training on behalf of Telkom.

Tomorrow I will take my dog for a walk past the local exchange and have a quiet chat to the techie there and see what can be done.

They told me it takes a week or two before they can "see" the upgrade to 10Mb on their systems for upgraded exchanges, even if the website shows the upgrade was done. The technician who did the upgrade is supposed to upgrade everyone to 10Mb, and you aren't supposed to call them to do it.

0800 375 375 Option 1. Ask them to do it. Took me 5 mins. You need to be in front of your router as they ask you to switch it off.

Thought you were going to say you were going to take your dog past the exchange and get him to pee on the side of the building :)

Try phoning 10217 option 2 option 3.. But this shouldnt be so an issue that Telkom cant upgrade your speed of the line...

Check on their site if your actual Exchange has been upgraded to ADSL2+ and not still on ADSL. Looking at those stats I'm surprised your line's SNR isn't higher which make me believe your exchange is still on the older ADSL. If so telkom may not upgrade you till the new ADSL2+ is installed in your area. Not saying that is the case. Just saying that could be a reason.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Still no joy, will try again next week.

I had the same issue - 102XX tells me to phone 0800 375 375 and vice versa. Best advice I can give you is to report "slowness" via 0800 375 375 and ask them to recreate the ADSL port. When they do this, tell them to create the port on 10Mbps - they did this for me without a problem (in my case the ADSL modem only synced to 1Mbps after the port-upgrade and I had to revert back to 4Mbps - so it seems that although the ADSL checker shows 10Mbps, it is not necessarily enabled).

Same problem here, my exchange has been 10mb enabled for nearly a month now, still on 4mb. Problem is that my line is still plugged into the old ADSL equipment and not the new ADSL2+ equpment. Only way i can think of around this is popping past the exchange when a technician is there and motivating him to move your line to the new equipment.

I've experienced similar issues with clients:

Disconnect your router from your line change the DSL setting from ADSL2 to AUTO, save and power down, wait 10 minutes and connect again.

If this does not solve your issue, send an email to EBSCESCALATION(AT)TELKOM.CO.ZA

Regards

Mike

Same case with me after phoning all other no it just took 5 mins to do it

dude your line is already at 10mbps according to your router

upgrade your ISP to take advantage of it

No it isn't, attainable rate is the maximum the router should be able to sync at, not what it is syncing at.

I just called Telkom as well - both 0800 375 375 and 10219 and they both said that it is no longer necessary to call as the router will eventually resync at the correct speed once it has been turned on.... (and my exchange says it supports 10mb)
