Telkom’s EpicFail

Problems at Multi-Links had gone on for too long and Telkom seemed *reluctant to admit that there were serious problems

Headline is so childish. But thats what you come to expect from a website like Mybb that doesnt write its own articles, but simply reposts others...

The point of the article must have gone over your head. The headline is fitting if you ask me.

I dont even think epic fail is a good enough headline for throwing R9,200,000,000.00 down the drain.

That's my opinion as well.

September and the Board who made those decisions should be investigated and be held accountable for their poor decisions. Where all these decisions above board? Was there a political agenda? Were there sweeteners involved?

Why was it a necessity to invest in Nigeria when South Africans were crying for better services?

Cheers, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Forgot to toe the party line - see what happened? Adds weight to the allegations of government interference in this decision.

Analysts have said consistently that Telkom severely overpaid for the stake — the purchase price was more than three times the $44-million price tag recommended to Telkom by KPMG. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, a government representative on the board, was the only Telkom director to object to the acquisition and was subsequently fired on April 28 2009.

Telkom said at the time that Spio-Garbrah’s directorship was terminated with effect from May 1 to allow for the staggering of appointments of new directors to the board. An analyst said the problems at Multi-Links had gone on for too long and Telkom seemed *reluctant to admit that there were serious problems. “Someone has to take responsibility,” the analyst said.

So they fire the ONE guy with an independent will; who was smart enough to see the **** storm coming? Telkom, Telkom, Telkom...

I say fire the current board, bring Mr Spio-Garbrah back and appoint him CEO/CFO and let's see how Telkom flourishes under good business decision-making.

I am somewhat confused. Maybe you can explain:

--Four out of the five lead articles today were done by MyBroadband’s journalists (80%). Does this not mean we write our own articles?
--You blame MyBroadband for the headline of another publication because we republish it? This so perplexing that I don’t know where to start with this argument :D

BTW: I think it is a fitting headline which clearly described Telkom’s problems with Multi-Links.

Oh that was lovely of them.

/wonders if they gonna blame this poop on the one dude that has brains...

How do we afford this as a country? Last year Eskom had a loss of ~R10bn. Telkom has now lost R9bn. In a broader context, is all the wasteful and corrupt expenditure - just two of many recent examples being R15bn on a toll system and R2bn "unaccounted for" in the Mahdibeng municipality. If we add all this up over the years, between unaccounted/misappropriated funds, corrupt arms deals, overspending on IT projects, huge losses at parastatals, the total amount of money thrown away must be approaching the trillion rand point. If any organisation maintains a list of all the money that's gone down the drain, I'd love to see it. I know the DA keeps a total of outright wasted money, but it doesn't include SOE losses, etc

Sounds rather messy. If this was in the private sector there would have been chaos
