TomTom Via LIVE 120 GPS review (MyBroadband)

I have the 5" Via 125, and have to agree with the review. Stunning devices from TomTom. I got mine for the traffic updates, and it generally works well.

Agree with you I had a Garmin before I got this one and it's years ahead.

I guess most people are using gps on their smartphones. Way better that having a bulky gps... And with some gps apps like waze you get alerts on where cops/traffic/accidents etc are.

Sleeker than my Garmin 3790 you can't get but Tom Tom's service can't be worse than GDA!

What? Oh - OK, there is no Garmin Service in SA.. Thats Right!

I switched recently to TomTom Go Live 1000... very nice, and I am glad I moved from Garmin.

The author got the retail price wrong though. The TomTom GO 650 Live GPS retails for just under R2000 while the Via LIVE 120 retails around R2300-R2500.

The just under R2000 price tag of the TomTom VIA LIVE 120 is correct. :)

According to the following links, the device normally retails around the R2000 mark, with the average sitting just under R2000:

I recently purchased the via live after starting of with garmin.
I find the unit not as intuitive as the garmin, but on the whole it works well. HD Traffic is cool except I heard that the renewal fee is going to be around R400 next year. Anyone know what garmins fees are?

Also, the "fastest route" is not always fastest, I think it's due to the IQ Routes which enables historical journeys to contribute to the calculations. If you select "calculate alternative", it finds an even faster route.

Also haven't figure out how to enable the mobile speed cameras. The support says that it should be coming through using gprs - maybe we have a dud?

Anyone else own a via live?
