After a long time wondering and plondering I finally went out and the iPad 2. And I have to say, what a awesome device. After playing around alot with my boet's Galaxy tab and only seeing iPad in passing I was never really sure if I should get iPad or Galaxy, but because of Google's antics the last couple months and looking and the price diffrences I thought I would take a chance and just get the iPad to be diffrent from my brother.

And wow, after playing with the device until the wee hours of the morning, the Galaxy/Android now feels like a cheap (not money wise, 'cause the Galaxy is not that much cheaper) Chinese knock off. I am so glad I got the iPad in the end, the build quality of the device itself is awesome, the OS is so much smoother than Android.

Anybody who is in two minds about which tablet to get like I was - GET THE IPAD!

I have had a netbook for about 2 years now.

My friend and recently my brother bought an iPad, and so i have used them.

For now, i still don't see the point of tablets.

I guess, if you dont have a netbook, they might be cool.

I was only in two-minds about the Galaxy vs Ipad thing. I was dead-set on going Android, fortunately our local market is so full of crap with stock, availability and pricing of these devices that i just decided to go with an ipad 2. I've not regretted it one moment, it's a great device and i have yet to find anything i couldn't do on it.

... i have yet to find anything i couldn't do on it.

Stream flash video. I couldn't sit and watch supersport vids on my ipad (that I won here on MyBB) so I gave it away to one of my nephews. He said he could find one or two uses for it...:)

Then you're not looking ;) . You -can- stream flash video and you -can- play flash games. The apps are right there in the appstore if you know what to look for.

Examples:

iSwifter
Puffin
Photon
Skyfire & Skyfire Video onQ

..and you don't need to jailbreak either.

Also have an iPad2
Except for the comic book reader app, some games(which are cool but you need a fake USA account) and later on the awesome app that we are developing for it :)
, I cannot find much use for it as well...

Searching for something on the web is quicker than booting the pc and the screen larger than my phone, pity about the flash support though

I must say, I do miss that. "Who's that actor? Hmm...iPad>safari>iMDB>search>Ah! . All without getting up from the couch :)

Once I got an iPad my netbook went out the window. I can do much more on the iPad and with less effort - so I'm afraid I'm on the other side of the fence for this one - I just don't see the point of netbooks. :o

Do you prefer the safari experience for IMDB or the App?

IMDB has an app for the iphone (I guess iPad too?)

Also, get Flipboard. It's a social media "magazine". You hook up your twitter/facebook/rss feeds in it, and it creates a little magazine out of it. So if your friend posts a youtube video on twitter, you'll be able to see it/watch the video in one foul swoop. If he posts an article link, they'll grab the article content and you can either read it on the flipboard or on the original site. That one app alone made me want an ipad 2...

Frankly, I'd have preferred brain surgery with a kitchen knife and no anaesthetic to "the safari experience", but to answer your question in all honesty I still prefer a web page. The app was a little too 'pared down' for my liking.

Yes, I do have a netbook. "Umm, honey, have you seen the netbook?"

"It's in the wendy house where you dumped it with the rest of the gadgets you spend all our money on!"

OK, but seriously now. A netbook is a small PC. It is something you use to produce stuff. An iPad is something you use to consume stuff. The distinction is not absolute, but if you try to use either of them the wrong way round you will be disappointed. I could read PDF e-books on the netbook by setting Adobe Reader up to flip the screen through 90 degrees, but it never was comfortable. Reading e-books on a tablet is a delight. Writing an e-book (Yes, speaking from experience here) goes far better with a proper computer.

Yeah. I guess it for different people it will be of different use.

Lets contextualize my usage.

I have a laptop and netbook. The laptop is my work device - work and play dont mix - i do not load any programmes or have any non work related content on my laptop.

So, I use my netbook for everything else, internet, email, downloading and watching movies, backing up photos, burning cd's for my car, playing mame games etc. My netbook gives me approx 6 hours on battery. From hibernate to ready to use, is under 30 secs.

I have an android phone, with e-mail, internet, games etc too.

To slot a tablet in there for me - no point - or no point just yet.

On the e-book front, i see the benefit of a tablet. I am old school with books. To me, a bookshelf full of real books, which grows with each book you buy is not something i would replace with electronic media.

I do consume a lot on my iPad but I'm rapidly producing more and more as time goes by and apps become better designed to take into account the device's strengths. For all but my biggest assignments I've substituted my laptop for an ipad in my camera bag and I'm using it for some heavy duty editing, and I'm doing it faster than I would on my laptop because the software is just that good.

I often take both my tablet and my netbook with me when I travel - there is a lot of stuff that a netbook can do that a tablet cannot.

Tune in radio is another cool app that lets you tune into just about any radio station both locally and abroad. It's quite bandwidth hungry so I wouldn't recommend using it via 3G....

I don't think I would be able to do with a tablet alone, I need a keyboard and not one of those onscreen jobbies.

The Asus tablet that has keyboard/cradle I reckon would do it for me.
