Afrihost R1 ADSL promotion: Was it a success?

Thank f***... now the real customers can get back to having more than 512k bandwidth during peak hours.

I love it how Gian Visser stays positive about the promotion, even though it didn't make complete financial sense. I'm one of the thousands who cancelled. Thing is just that Telkom's cap (as included in the doBroadband packages) is still cheaper. But the moment I need some extra cap I won't think a second before getting it from Afrihost. Afrihost is one of the few South African companies I'm truly positive about.

Don't fret Afrihost, I'll be back soon! I had a taste of your services and want more. I didn't vote you 'ISP of the year' for nothing!

I'm on the R99 for 11gb and it's by the far the best deal of all the ISP's I've been.

For me Afrihost have always the best latency and speed, and really is rarely down. The 2gb/R30 permanent special at the end(ish) of the month is always great.

I also cashed in on the special just to get a few gigs free, and it was the same smooth/flawless experience.

Thanks Gian!

I've been an uncapped AH customer since they almost started.... I used the 50Gb capped account to test the daytime speeds. What peak hours are you referring to? I would switch from the R1 capped account to my (full price) uncapped account every night at around 7pm and I never experienced any difference in service.

Sorry Mickey. I was about to delete that comment. I think my exchange is oversubscribed. o_O

Any goodwill they generate from these promotions is immediately lost when they see Gian attempt a "smile" :wtf:

Thank you Afrihost for shaking up the market every once in a while!

You are definitely the ISP who sets the pace for others to try and follow.

haha what a bull $h*t article.

Afrihost has signed a 3 year deal with IS commiting to massive amounts of bandwidth.
They are not meeting those bandwidth agreements, but they are still forced to pay for it, so hence giving away bandwidth at a loss.

This PR crap about "omg we love the customer that we just using our `marketing budget` to make them feel warm and fuzzy" is a load of crap.

@Gian, a pity that you're not also giving back the WiFi access at AlwaysOn hotspots I used to have as a feature of my capped account. Now I'm told it was only a trial of your new ADSL&WIFI package

Really I would love to know how many stayed, Even if 85% cancelled it would probably still be regarded as a win.

i thought i was the only one who is freaked out a little bit . . . lmao

I love the way people make categorical statements about why companies do what they do, yet those people have no direct ties to the operation of the companies that they claim to know so much about.

I think every innovating company has somewhere in there life-span tried something and it wasn't quite as successful as they would have liked or it was an utter failure.

Like Thomas Edison once said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."

To Afrihost: Thanks for the wonderful idea, sorry it did not work out (financially) the way you had hoped.

To all critics: I don't see you being voted as one of the top 2 ISP's in South Africa.

In my opinion, Afrihost is number 1!

AFRIHOST FTW!

I can also say that I have had excellent customer experience from Afrihost, and if it was not for the fact that I had to pay Telkom for a landline I would have stayed with them.

Maybe somewhere in the future again... :)
