Hi
Anyone know when the new Torch 9810 will be available in SA and what the cost/contract details will be?
I've never had a BB, - always Windows (HTC) and Andriod.
Will I be making a mistake getting the torch 9810?
Worried about the poor battery life (based on what I've heard of most BBs (9900, etc.)).
What is really good about BIS and BBM?
Is surfing the net on a tiny screen really a good experience? I'm coming from 3.8" and 4.0" HTC touchscreens, - the TP2 has a killer slideout keyboard.
Should I wait for the new iPhone 4S?
:cry::wtf::cry::confused::confused:

I'm going to wait for it, but not too long. Hopefully its here by dec. I think the 9900 is great but has a small screen and so the touch is almost wasted.

A slide out kb would be the best of both worlds to me

what do you use your phone for?

e-mail, making quick notes/reminders, facebook, twitter, games and apps (ok, there're some great stuff on Android Marketplace); RSS/news feeds.
I'm currently in the market for a private phone, so very little calls, - that's done on the business phone.
Photos and videos when caught without my DSLR.

That's exactly how I feel...after using the 7" Galaxy Tab and iPad2, it's very difficult to go to a small touch screen.

But with all of RIMs problems and them being on the backfoot, makes one question, why did the lucrative North American market abandon them for the iPhone and Android.
And I'm afraid if the local BB distributors take too long to release the 9810, they will lose market share to the iPhone 4S. I could very well be on of those people...
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Whatsapp do all that BBM does?
Data prices have dropped drastically from a coupla years ago, so that negates the "free" R59/R69 BIS, - besides BIS could very well be throttled soon with "fair-usage" policies.

I think it's already available at McDonald's, but you need to buy a meal first :P

Oh yeah! Inter-thread joke *high five*

There is only one BlackBerry I want next, the Torch 9860, and there have been outright statements that it won't be sold here (no reference, was some other thread where someone said some MTN guy said...). So, can't get the BlackBerry I want, new iPhone on the way, not much of a choice. Even a nice Android would go down well.

The 9900 is nice and all, but the camera is terrible.

I'm also waiting for the 9810, MTN has the packages and contract prices loaded on their systems. I'm on their waiting list,BUT they dont know when it will be released. one store said end of October but im not believing that!

All the new BB's have the same camera.

I think its decent, BB cameras have always been good.

Think about a non-RIM phone where instead of BIS and the carrier channeling all internet traffic for the RIM device all the way to the regional NOC , the carrier then carries this traffic directly (now what is the likelyhood of a refund from the carrier if they drop the ball re internet connectivity to your handheld)

The data plan that you on and how it all works should not matter , what should matter is network resilience and how soon your carrier can get everything up and running once again.

Got my 9810 today! @R329 pm R200 anytime on MTN

The one just opposite Gateway mall Umhlanga, I had it on pre-order and they sms me when it arrived:)

You're lucky! Seems like someone at the outlet slipped up and gave you the new 9810 (Torch2) at the current price of the OLD 9800 (Torch1).

I'm in JHB, and went to a few outlets today. The one says they have not received the new offer/contract details as yet, and will only be issuing the phone from 01 November, and then only on the anytime 350 contract, they THINK. They expect the offers to be the same as the Bold 9900, which is currently going for about R440-R450/month.
Other outlets had no idea whether they will be offering the 9810.

If it's not too much trouble, how about giving us a review in a few days time, - just the high and lowlights.
I'm only concerned about the battery life...will it need daily recharging with moderate use, or can it be stretched to two days with light usage.

ENJOY!

Yip I was very lucky the Direct MTN store (phoning via 808) said as well they dont know when it will be released and the contract prices as yet, only one store in Hillcrest told me it will be at R329 as well but all other stores were not to sure.
That Gateway store actually showed me the pricing list and yip it was at R329 :-) But who knows after the 01 November what the prices will be

Im really enjoying the phone it's my first Blackberry, One quick question after about 2hours of use its a little warm at the back.Is that normal cosidering the processor is being used?
Also Im not to clued up on the BIS etc. I noticed that I have the BIS logo when I have 3G enabled but when I enable 2G the BIS logo goes away? Does that mean I will now be charged for browing etc?

Will write a review in a few days time after trying to figure how to use it LOL

I just confirmed with my local branch

MTN 200 R329x24 inc BIS

MTN 350 R429X24 BIS inc

I asked for the specs also, just to confirm that they not quoting on the 9800...
