Netgear DGN2200 Firmware Upgrade

SA would fall outside of Annex B - so the 3rd link is the one you need.

Thanks Dean - your technical knowledge is integral to the success and popularity of this forum. Optimal01 - not very warm as it chills under a cocktail umbrella :D

Hey,

I'm looking to upgrade my Netgear DGN2200 firmware but I'm not sure what annex South Africa falls into. The firmware update link is below:

http://support.netgear.com/app/answ.../~/dgn2200/dgn2200b-firmware-version-1.0.0.36

Hopefully someone can help me out with this. I have done some searching but can't find any answers as to which annex SA is under.

Thanks in advance!

Annex A is ADSL over POTS (Plain Old Telephone System), Annex B is ADSL over ISDN.

You want Annex A.

The Annex A & B on the Netgear site refers to the wireless not the ADSL. Certain channels and transmission strengths aren't allowed in the US and Germany.

Thanks guys! I downloaded and installed the file which was listed on the Netgear site as follows:

"For users outside North America, Germany & Annex B countries".

Seems to have done the job :)

Guess no support for PPPoe yet ? But think it's a hardware restriction on the DGN2200 ....

All of the ADSL modems in SA supports PPPoE, even the DGN2200.

The Netgear modems, like the DGN2200, often don't support PPPoE Passthrough/PPPoE Relaying/Half-Bridge or even Bridge mode for that matter! In this case, you either have to resort to 3rd-party firmware or ditch the ADSL modem and if you're lucky you can use it as a WiFi AP.

Hi

Guess you guys aren't talking about the Telkom branded hardware (DGN2200Mv2)? Just got a reply from HCOM which said:

"The DGN2200Mv2 that we provide to Telkom to sell to their ADSL customers is 100% customised for Telkom. That means that the firmware on the Telkom version is according to Telkom’s specifications and the features on the product also slightly differ from each other. The stuff you read on the internet on Netgear’s website and the firmware version 1.0.0.33 and 36 has all to do with the retail version of the DGN2200 and not the Telkomised one. You cannot load the retail version firmware on this product since Telkom has blocked this and only allows the Telkomised version of firmware. If there is later versions of firmware available (which there currently aren’t), we will make that available on our website and on Telkom’s website. The Telkomised version is also the reason why your registration also failed."

Is there any work-around?

By the way...

HCOM also said "a new version of Firmware to implement this. It should be available towards the end of March if all goes well."
By the sounds of it this should resolve the E367 dongle issue and ReadySHARE / file sharing feature

Thread dredge...

Any update here?

I just got a free DGN2200M-2TKSAS from Telkom. As usual, MyBB is top of the Google list :)

Also got the Netgear yesterday. I took the flawed D-Link back and the Netgear is 100% stable, connects fast and Wi-Fi is stable. The latest firmware is available on Hcom's support page. I presume all the Telkom restrictions in the firmware, mentioned in this thread, still applies.

@Budza
Thank you, the update for the Telkom router that you posted, works great.

Telkom DGN 2200m

I took the telkom deal as I was told by the telkom rep that this modem (netgear dgn 2200m) supports Readyshare. I have just downloaded the latest firmware from HCOM and yet no readyshare?? Is this modem able to stream data form the usb port?

Can the Telkom firmware be put onto a vanilla Netgear DGN2200 router? Need the VPN Lite wizard to get VPN Lite from Telkom working.

If by vanilla Netgear you can mean standard Netgear router, then no you cannot as the Telkom router have different chip in it. For firmware for the Telkom Netgear, you need to download it from www.hcom.com

I have the same issue, I need VPN Lite to work over the stock DGN2200v3 :(

Sorry to bomb this thread with a quick question, but if I buy the Netgear DGN2200 from Telkom, would I still be able to connect via an alternate ISP? And is it a decent modem/router? Or should I rather get a different one?
