Cheapest 3G tablet in SA for R2,299

Hi all, I am considering getting a tablet PC for doing stuff like web searching, email, youtube and maybe internet banking. I have adsl at home with WIFI so I will be connecting on that most of the time. The thing that I would like to know is how safe are these table PCs? Do I have to get antivirus for them? And are there any good antivirus apps for tablet PCs? Also do you think the below is adequate for my needs?

The link from the article to this thread is wrong. Looks it got jumbled up somehow. Needs to be fixed.

The iPad 2 with 3G retails for R5,699? Seems a bit high to me.
 
Company I worked for could probably match it for less. At current the tablet is wifi only (a usb modem from the company can be purchased which allows connection to mobile networks). Has 1ghz cpu, 512 ram, capacitive touchscreen 7 inch screen... retailed for R1550.

The Chinese can make really good low products :)

Well it does mp4 so it should be good but i dunno man you get what you pay for :eek:
 
If they had a decently priced 10" tablet from China then I'd consider...

But at R2299 for a 7"... they're a bit overpriced for what the item actually is.
 
won't buy it - can get a decent brand name netbook for the same price

This is clearly false advertising , as the Qualcomm MSM7227-T maximum operating frequency is 600Mhz ,but can be overclocked to 800Mhz, yes it does have a DSP but this runs on its own 320mhz clock and CANT BE COMBINED WITH THE CLOCK SPEED OF THE PROCESSOR,as it will never exceed 600Mhz, or performance as the 320mhz is used for other things like display.

You might aswell add the 5GHz Wifi that the unit has on board and try and market it as a 6Ghz processor…

This appears to be very cheap journalese advertisement for a misleading product.

The Ideos Slim 7 at mtn for R99 p/m would be a much better deal, at least you get some mb as well.
 
I'm looking forward to the launch of the Kindle Fire at $199 in November. It looks like quite a potent little number at a really good price. Hopefully it is made available for SA deliveries.
