Hey all you iPad users.

Here is a place where you can post any cool shortcuts or tips you've discovered whilst playing around on your ipad.

No jailbreaks or the such, please.

1. In safari, to open a page in a new window, hold your finger for longer than one second on the link. A popup menu will appear, asking you whether you want to open it, open in a new page, or copy the link.

2. Text editing - this is not always consistent... Double-tapping (or tripple-tapping) in any text field will either let you mark a block of text, or move the cursor around... I'm still trying to suss this one.. :o ... argh...

Five finger gestures: pinch them together to show home screen. Swipe left or right to "alt tab" to next open app.

Subscribing to this thread ASAP.

Something that I use quite a lot is the 5 finger multi-task gesture. To switch between apps without returning to the Home screen just touch the screen with all five fingers spread across the screen and swipe left or right to go to the next app. You can also pinch your fingers together to reveal the home screen.

EDIT: Beaten to it because the phone rang at the office.

Love this thread idea,

5 finger gesture also not working for me on iOS 5

iPad or iPad2? On the iPad2 go to settings, general, and make sure enable multitasking gestures is on.

iOS 5 is a must. Split keyboard is nice.
If its not working go into settings and check that multitasking gestures are enabled (I think it's under general)

sweet must upgrade, sorry i am a noob, how do i go about it? i.e download in itunes upgrade etc?

iTunes should detect that new software is available and do it all for you. 600odd meg though...

To see which apps are running in the background and close them completely.

Press the Home button 2 times. It will open a bar at the bottom of the screen and show all open Apps.

If you want to close the Apps. Press and hold your finger over any Icon until the Icons wiggle. You will get a "No Entry" sign on each icon. Tap on that to close the relevant app.

For obvious reasons it is advisable to do the upgrade on a fully-charged battery...

Whilst on this topic, why won't the ipad charge from pc usb?
