soon this will be the case in pretty much every country on earth, be it under the banner of anti-terrorism or protecting citizens from "harmful" material

The quote is "“Of course there should be reasonable regulation in Russia, just as it is done in the United States, China and many other countries." and not "Of course there should be reasonable regulation in Russia, just as it is done in China."

Bad governments don't like the internet. Time for a new form of government where the powers that be don't have such centralized power.

Yep. A government that wants to control its internet is the epitome of a government with a guilty conscience.
