The next challenge for TopTV

Yeah agreed live sport and the ability to choose which channels u want. Then Monochoice will really feel the exodus. :)

Go TopTV

For TopTV to succeed, they need to
  • offer something DSTV does not, eg Playboy.
  • have better technology (HD, PVR, etc)
  • offer more channels
  • offer better channels
  • be less expensive than DSTV (value for money)
So far they've only competed using the last option.
The good news is - they have more options available to compete with,
and ZA public needs them - DSTV is way too expensive.

I would really like to see an HD-PVR with good software - the DSTV firmware is a joke.

Well my friend got TopTV, then she canceled it after two months, all because they repeat more than DSTV.
When she wanted to reconnect it they told her there was a outstanding balance of R1200-00.
When questioning it, TopTV say she canceled her bouquet but not her Decoder signal, so she got charged for the service every month even though the decoder says "your service has been suspended".

Sly tactics used by TopTV! They say there are two cancellations you have to do, how are you suppose to know this when no one tells you?

So basically you can't watch any channels but still get charged?

Thank you will stay with DSTV...... They lost on alot of customers as she was not the only one who was bitten by this in our area, so basically TopTV has been so bad mouthed PEP stopped stocking there decoders here...

I feel nothing for TopTV if a handful of people in our all experienced the exact same problem and got the same excuse...

@ hummercellc, sounds very much some body has to contact a consumer agency or make use of media to correct Top TV on this one. My experience was actually very bad with the billing system of Dstv. At some stage they had opened two accounts for me and kept disconnecting totally unnecessarily many times. Took ages and hours *&^$)(*& to their call centre to sort it out. Has not happened to me with Top TV. We really need two or more competitive pay TV companies, so we are getting value for money.

TopTV need Sport, Dual View, PVR and HD. In that order.

You don't get charged for anything if you're not subscribed and cannot receive any channels.

Here is a suggestion for you TopTV, from a former subscriber.

When I was your subscriber, I was also a DStv subscriber. This is because I was on their R20/month bouquet. I LOVE DStv.

I was forced to cancel my subscription with you because there was no low cost (keep your account with us) option.

Doing a few calculations. I don't know how many subscriber you have lost but my estimate would be about 100,000 or more. For every five R20/mth subscribers you keep you will have one R99/mth subscriber. Let us say only 60,000 of the 100,000 had decided to downgrade to the R20/mth option (if you had it), this would have meant that today you would have been having an extra 60,000 subscribers, albeit paying R20/mth (or an extra 12,000 if we convert the 60,000 to R100/mth).

Bear in mind that these 60,000 who stay on are loyal clients with a much greater potential of upgrading than securing loyalty from the R99 or more per month subscribers that you solely target.

You would be copying (following in the footsteps of DStv) but it works. Today I am a DStv customer again and it was so easy.

An ex who you continue to have strong ties with after the break up has a much greater chance or making up with you than one with whom ties are completely servered. Feelings of remorse would in all likelihood plague either parties. With servered ties feelings of resentment are much easier to develop because no positive messages are being communicated either way.

I am getting a little philosophical but - I'm just saying.

Why would I pay DSTv R20 per month for something I'm not using?

you pay just for the digital quality instead of the snow analog sabc picture quality
You mean the digital signal that degrades when the wind blows and disappears completely when it rains? They now charge for that?
