Vodacom warns of new SMS Scam

Ah man...I just won R350 000 in a comp I didnt enter.dont tell me thats a scam too...
 
I only started getting these scam smses (on prepaid for 12 years) AFTER RICA. Aaaand since my dad RICA'd me under his name it is a bit "interesting" that all the spam addresses me as him.

RICA is essentially one giant number list selling scheme and it appears in full-swing.

Wouldn't it then be a simple task for them to block that email address and stop that scam?

Yep - but a colleague received a very similar SMS but with a contact number. I guess the email has been blocked and they have changed their tactics.

So why can't vodacom just look up the owners of this email account and nail them?

well... yes, actually.

I thought you could only get a vodamail.co.za email account if you had a vodacom cellphone number, and with all cellphone numbers now rica'd blah blah blah?
