Hi folks

I was alerted to a thread about Aki Anastasiou where he was attacked. I know Aki personally (and people who attended the MyBroadband conference will also know him as the MC), and he is not only a super guy but also knowledgeable on IT related issues.

We obviously don't allow personal attacks on members (Aki is indeed a member :) ), and in this case I can personally defend him. If you have ever met Aki you will do the same - he is very cool, down to earth and loved by basically everyone who knows him.

He may well respond here, but if he does not you can feel free to post questions here. I will get answers :)

Seeing that the other thread has been closed but:

1. Nobody attacked Mr. Aki. (It seems that is the way he wants to be addressed)

2. Mr. Aki attacked a forumite telling him to tell him in his face that he is crap. (Uncalled for in my opinion, if he just gave his explanation that his program is for less tech savvy people then I would not have participated here)

3. I don't have time to google a forumite with 38 posts' username to see who he is. ( Go google mine if you have nothing better to do)

Note to rest of forum:

Never ever criticise a friend of the owner of this site.

PS. Why did you close the other thread if it would have died a natural death?
 
A follow up is that is was never an attack but definitely a crit. (Except the guy who posted silly hacker rumour). Aki is full of energy on the radio and does (as per rpm) sound like a "super" guy.

Maybe it is the dumbing down of his show to the audience or the way he does it but I should be allowed to comment or ask the question even if the original was not 100% politically correct, the forum in my opinion does allow for that.

What is the outcome of the question... people who know him have said he is tech savvy and they responded accordingly as this forum does allow.
The first response from Aki was uncalled for and asking for a flame war in the thread.
His second post saying @technobyte "have the guts to do so in my face" - I mean come on really. He works with John Robbie who has a chin bigger than Graeme Smith. BTW 702 does do anonymous comments on their shows...
He could have just explained his show to us as other members have done on his behalf.
 
Agree with you guys. I like Aki and his show, it's always interesting. But I do think he was a bit OTT in his response, he lost cred with that.

Best thing you can do now, Aki, is to save some face and come on here and admit you overreacted a bit. That might gain you some respect again.

Of course it was a personal attack.
The original poster (who has now conveniently disappeared in a very cowardly manner) asked a question that was not framed in any kind of objective manner.
I would not stoop to answer such a comment.
It was not worthy of a serious answer.

If he wanted a genuine response he could have asked it in a civilised manner.
It was childish and offensive and deserved the response that it got.

And as for Aki being a friend of the site, the answer is yes, he is, he has done a lot for the site. So what?
Friendliness has its rewards!

What is of more interest to me is that certain posters here have now grabbed this like a dog with a bone and continue to troll the topic.

Forgot who the OP was, but every time I read the statement above, it seems less and less like an attack. In fact, its a proposition based on the OP's opinion. He offers the forum a question on whether his opinion is unfounded or not. This ain't no attack. If you want to see attack's, look at some of the posts directed to Jannie van Zyl and the likes. They're far worse and Jannie deals with it waaaaay better. Just saying...
 
To say that somebody knows f-all about something (especially when it is their bread and butter) is a personal attack.

A more objective way of asking it would be...

"What does so and so really know about such and such topic?"

or...

"I personally don't feel that such person knows much about the given topic"

There is no reason to use offensive language when asking a question. It negates the seriousness of the question.
People need to grow up and learn to speak in a mature manner.

When I read that question the first time my immediate reaction was that this poster was a kid who doesn't know how to conduct himself in public properly.
 
Unfortunately, this being "teh interwebz", there are wayyyy too many "anonymous" tools who use every opportunity to fart into the wind. While I didn't read the other thread at all, I don't blame Aki for getting pissed off and for reacting the way he apparently did. There are way too many opinionated loud mouth idiots around.
 
I seem to recall Aki on CapeTalk popping in every now and again as a guest presenter. He seemed quite jovial and down-to-earth, but didn't have much of a role. Now he seems to have reinvented himself in the tech field. He's doing a pretty good job. He's not boring or self-centered like several of the others on the various pod-casts. With the steady decline in standards on the radio in general and talk radio specifically, we aren't in a position to nitpick. I say he's an asset.
 
Jeeesh talk about over reaction, like I said to Aki, you cannot be liked by everybody all the time.
I think if someone called him a name directly that is wrong I guess.
Aki is a great guy no doubt about that as everyone I know who knows him says only good things.
Just because a guy is a good guy does not mean that everyone has to like him.
Hell all my mates will say I am a good guy (I hope :D) but many here don't like me - you want to engage with the public you have to have a thick skin.
I remember when I started posting here, people would argue with me and I would take it so personally, I would get so upset.

I realised no one here actually knows me, has spent tie with me, etc etc so who really cares?
And, like I said, if Aki was so bad at what he does, how come he has his own show and he is famous? ;)
 
For what it's worth... I think Aki is a swell guy, knowledgeable, down to earth and thoroughly enjoy listening to him on air ;)

I think the whole episode has been blown out of proportion, but it was a lesson in sensitivity. Just because we cant see each other and have anonymity doesn't mean you can be callous

I did - well said that I feel the same way about Simon as I do Aki: Drab, boring and dreary.

I still maintain there was no personal attack, the way in which the question was asked is nothing out of the "norm" here on mybb.
Oversensitive reactions and defiant defence from a man who seems to be in need of a chill pill or Spa and fanboys.
