Hey guys

Hope you can help me out.

Im looking at 2 LED/LCD's that ill use for normal use, and gaming. The two tv's are the Bravia ex520 and the samsung d5000. Has anyone got experience with any of these tv's? your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

AFAIK TV's are not best for gaming because they were not designed for close-up viewing.

That is true, I think they are meant to be viewed at a distance and even full HD looks a bit dodgy up close on a tv.

IMO stick to a set of nice 23/24 inch LCD monitors

Why do you need 2? Just get a big 27" Asus monster and be happy :D

I have a samsung d5 46" and it is amazing for gaming. If you could link the exact model you are looking i could tell you.

It's like gaming on a huge lcd, i can sit about 1m away from it with ease and game.

Hey Killadoob

im looking at the samsung in this link http://www.samsung.com/ie/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UE40D5000PKXXU-spec

Im wondering if it would be fine for gaming, as i have an xbox 360 and it outputs at 60hz refresh, but i think this tv is 50hz, and clear motion 100hz. Your help is greatly appreciated

Looks good dude.

The refresh rate is really not an issue. I run bf 3 fine on mine. Honestly these samsung tv's look like huge lcd's up close.

Just ensure you check it out before buying but it looks perfect to me.

Viewing distance?

You need minimum 1m ish for a 32". From 1m I can see pixels on my 32", obviously bigger pixels on 40", 46" etc so much easier to see from 1m.

Sammy LA32D550 is excellent if you have the viewing distance. I have the previous C550 but am downgrading to Dell U2410 IPS because it's better for long use.

Well i sit 1m from my 46" and it looks stunning, i sit typing this 1m away. I can sit for 8 hours playing bf 3 without any issues. The thought of going back to a 24" monitor has never crossed my mind.

My led looks so good 1m away. Whether you believe me or is not really an issue either postman. I cannot see the pixels at all. Perhaps your 32" is just an old lcd that doesn't look great up close. My other cheap tv i bought also had big pixels up close so i know what you mean but i was amazed when i unwrapped my 46" led :D.

I noticed your 32" doesn't have an ultra clear display and only 50 motion so ya i doubt it can look good up close and the motion must be a little on the dodgy side. The new led 5 series range is simply mind blowing. Easily use it as a monitor. I even do all my work on my 46" now as well.

You have more than 1080p at 46"?

Because I have 1080p at 32"?

Ultraclear gives more pixels or what?

Yours has 50 motion, same like mine?

Ag not ganna take you for the fool that you are. Carry on spreading kark.

On a serious note I'd hate to know what your eyes are like after using a 46" from 1m after a few months as much as you do.

Dude i am just telling you how i use my monitor, you are the one who won't believe it.

Well my tv is 100hz motion not 50 like yours and has an ultra clear panel unlike yours. I would imagine having an ultra clear panel over a non ultra clear panel would give you a better picture up close but perhaps i am wrong and the ultra panel means nothing.

To be honest though i don't care whether you believe me or not. I sit 1m away and the picture is crystal clear and i cannot see these big pixels you speak of. Crystal clear, amazing and i am loving.

Yes you are wrong. We both have 1080p. Think about it.

You do NOT have 100 motion. You have a 60 HERTZ screen.

Yup but you have old lcd tech with an old panel, i have new led tech with an ultra clear panel, think about it.

Anyways whatever, argue all you like. I don't care i am just telling the OP my experience with a sammy led ultra clear. He can now decide whether he wants to listen to someone who doesn't have one or someone that uses one everyday for work, gaming and interwebs :D sitting 1m away from the screen.

The only time i need viewing distance is watching dstv because the sd signal is crap but hd is coming as soon as the f1 season starts.

Has nothing to do with how old it is (mine is 2011 btw, hardly old).

Do you not realise that your pixels are bigger than mine, which I can see if I look for them from 1m? I do not even have perfect vision?

Either, you:

1) Have poorer vision than me
2) sit a fair bit more than 1m away

If I'm wrong, detail the advances made that gives you more pixels, or smaller pixels, on your 14" bigger screen with the same "1080p" pixels?

Tell us how your 1 year newer LCD is better from 1m WRT pixels, tell us about this Ultraclear panel and how that affects it.

:confused::confused::confused:

Quick question. If you turn the clear motion on (100hz) , does it not cause the screen to shudder, or is it smooth, as i had an LG scarlett, which was 60hz, and 100hz tru motion, and the tru motion would shudder a bit and not be smooth. Bearing in mind the Scarlett was an older tv.

He doesn't have 100Hz. He has 50/60Hz. So we will need to wait for answers from someone with a true 100Hz screen (Samsung 6 Series and up).

But it's a good point, no one would use 100Hz when using it with a PC and doing work on. The key to using LCD TVs as PC monitors is removing as much post processing as possible, removing all over scan, etc. (100Hz is post processing). Perhaps some games will be nice with 100Hz.

Older tv. My sammy doesn't shudder and it's smooth. The key is stay away from lcd and only buy led if you want to game, use it for a monitor and so on or you may as well buy a plasma.

Postman my sammie is 100hz clear motion, i think both me and ching realize the monitors are only 60hz but you seem to have missed that part.

LOOOL! :D:D

But you have a fsckin LCD!

Ah thanks dude for the absolute gem! If I had space in my sig it'd be there. Highlights the complete ignorance around TVs.

Yup but it's LED. The older lcd tv's are the ones to stay away form because as you point out with your 32" they are not very good. buying cheap is never a good idea that is for sure.

Odd when i bought it it never said 46" lcd, it said 46" led so i am not sure what you are going on about.
