MXit is long dead. Since the release of WhatsApp and the Blackberry craze that SA is experiencing. I suspect they won't be around much longer.

i don't get the comparison with whatsapp. sure, they're both im platforms, but mxit offers a [potentially] richer experience. it's more social and communal than 1 on 1 chat, and it has the ability for advertisers and developers to engage audiences and monetise the service more richly. i'm not predicting mxit's success, more than i find the analog with dedicated im clients a bit off.
in also am not sure that mxit should really target the top end smartphone space.
iphone users have facebook and imessage. these are people at the top end of the earning spectrum, who make a phonecall to their friends because they don't fret over a few rands here and there. while iphones may be big in nigeria, i'm pretty sure they aren't the platform to be targeting for growth in the rest of africa. maybe i'm wrong...

If Whatsapp start throwing ads @ me I'll delete it in minutes. It can be used 'communal' with group chats. As for chat groups and rooms - who cares?
