I think my exchange is becoming congested? But would like to reset the port as a last test before reporting a fault. Since Sunday I am syncing at the full 4mb and my Router Stats:

Line Attenuation 16.5 db 6.4 db (down/up)
Noise Margin 24.5 db 23.8 db (down/up)

So I am almost on the exchange, yet I get a 300-500ms ping to www.mweb.co.za and a download and when lucky I get 2mb download but mostly sub 384kb/s

I'm busy trying to reset the port at the exchange but getting no where on the phone (10210) Are there any other numbers to try. What times are they open?

My exchange is Eastleigh by the way.

Any tips?

Thanks, maybe I should try in the morning as it's too late now.

Any idea what the opening hours are? Can't find anything on the website.

I have no idea.

I actually did it yesterday I've realized, and after about 15 minutes I'd almost convinced myself that they don't work on Sundays. Luckily I waited a bit longer. :D

Hard to say, I don't think so. Line is up and down like a yo-yo, and no one seems to have a clue why.

Do you hear any line noise? Have you tried another ISP account (I can lend you my Afrihost backup to test).

This is what's going on.

I am currently using an Afrihost account to test, thanks for the offer, and it's working perfectly, hence my vague confusion.

I am just hoping it fails with this account soon, so I can 100% eliminate MWEB as a culprit.

So annoying!

I have tried 2 different accounts from 2 different ISPs and even a different router. All with the same effect. I will jump on the phone again.

*edit*

I didn't phone to get the port reset, that's just what the Telkom person wanted to do.

I would've asked if you're on WA but I see you're not.

Hi Thanks but unfortunately I do not have a MWEB account, it was just one of the websites that i used to ping.

Thanks for the offer though.

If you haven't yet had any luck in resetting your port, send me your number

Thank you, as soon as I get home today I will see if I can get telkom to reset the port and hopefully that helps. If not I will PM you my number.

UPDATE: just got off the line with someone at telkom (who didn't sound happy) after stating that the latency is very high on my line making downloading a pain, even for local stuff, she asked what my address is, and after I told her she said that there is problem at the Eastleigh exchange that started on the weekend some time.

A "Network Fault" there and they are working on saying that should be fixed during the course of the week. I'm hesitant to believe her, but what can you do?

I will try phone again tomorrow and see what they say. Problem is I'm off to CT for a week and will only get back in a weeks time.

Sidenote: My wife is at home all day and she said that the line has been "normal" (general browsing and downloading of documents) but just after 5 it got a lot slower.
