Well, everything in the study is true - a 10 gig cap is a pitiful thing, especially when it used to cost so much.
I for one, welcome our uncapped overlords xD

If the prices were comparable to that in the states of 150GB to 200GB, then the study is only slightly accurate. With my 1MB Uncapped line, I rarely pull over a 100GB on my computer alone, with a housemate who uses it during the day (so I don't download all day erry day) contributing a small amount each month. It's a lot of content and I can't believe American customers would complain about that being too small. Then again, their lines are faster so it's a moot point.
 
I know this feeling, I always had to make sure the 8 GB Telkom Account lasted at least until the 15th of the month, then top up with AH.

It's so much better on Uncapped, I don't have to worry about the usage.

SO happy that the only choices I make these days regarding caps are the cap on my hard drive's space :)
 
Had the same discussion with a friend a while back.
Had to choose between a "high" cap, unshaped connection or a shaped uncapped, decided that the pain and effort involving uncertainty and the pain of monitoring just isn't worth the increase in speed.

It's just so much better to know I always have a connection (at a set price). You never know when you have to reinstall a machine and download tons of service packs and updates (took me 1.5 days of downloading in a 4Mb line for Win7, Visual Studio, Office, SQL Server etc. updates)
Not to mention having to sync your entire email account to a desktop client if your backup doesn't work for some reason...

I do. everybody does not rape the internet like you. people use capped accounts on what they can afford due to Telkom's analogue and high adsl rental prices. if the analogue prices fall away with very low adsl rental charges then we all will be on uncapped. so piss off.

Seriously? Piss off? Didn't you have your coffee today? That's just rude. Btw from June if telkom scrapes the 384 and make it 1mbps a 1mbps account with dsl rental will cost you in the R300 mark, think R329 excluding analogue line rental, so its not realy that expensive.

Absolutely - same experience here - going to uncapped really does alter the way you think about the internet - best decision I ever made.

Uncapped accounts really are very affordable now

How much are you currently paying?
 
This confuses South Africans who have not heard of streaming services like NetFlix, Hulu and even YouTube. For an American with a highspeed line, it makes sense to rather get your TV content from one of these services. They regularly stream HD TV series through the net.
 
I decided against joining Mweb since they didn't pass any savings on to their 4meg customers, but I've had a cheap high capped account for a while and at R199 for 130gb I have more than I need.

So there's a third option left out in the survey: a large capped account effectively functions like uncapped - sometimes even better due to shaping on the uncapped accounts.

ps. I just read Mweb's also absorbing the Telkom savings on their capped products. Sheesh, talk about begin greedy, they managed to grab a corner of the market so they're going all monopolistic on their customers. FU Mweb, it gives me such a boner knowing its not my money they're taking.

I simply converted to uncapped because I became fed-up of looking over my shoulder checking all the time.
