Telkom services disrupted due to cable theft (16 May 2012)

Wonder if you guys are getting proper upgraded equipment due to this O_O, 20MB ADSL here she comes :D.

If you guys need backup, guess those CellC / 8ta specials aren't so bad until things get sorted. They (Telkom) are atleast doing something so +1 to them.

In their efforts to counter the scourge of copper cable theft, explained Hess, Telkom has adopted various interventions, which include, but are not limited to, the following:

Proactively alarming critical and sensitive cable routes and employing services of armed security firms;
Deploying wireless technologies that are alternatives to copper;
Assessing vulnerable aerial cable routes and, where feasible, these are buried underground;
Working closely with the Non-Ferrous Theft Combating Committee (NFTCC) under the auspices of Business Against Crime and the South African Police Services, to jointly find ways of protecting our cable network;
Implementing a national campaign to raise awareness of the Company’s toll-free crime-report line (0800124000) as the co-operation and support of all communities is vital in stamping out cable theft. All members of the public are urged to assist Telkom by making use of this number if they see any suspicious activities.
...*yawn*. same techniques since 1995, no wonder the problem is still rampant. Hows about the government steps in and does something to prevent SA exporting copper? Wouldn't that kill 100 birds with 1 stone?

Yup actually it got hit about two weeks ago, again this week. Scary to see where these are digging,right next to main roads.

Weekends are the time for us sadly, hit the cables twice this month. Fing annoying. This time they got them fifty m from my place. The dogs all over went mad. From now if they go that mad i will go look cause it must take them about an hour or more but it hurts us for a week or more.

How many thefts until they stop replacing mickey?

3rd time.

Same cable or cable run.

Would they really shut down an area like bromhof and surrounding with all those businesses who need the lines? I better get a cable watch going. Mickey i saw where the guys dug, now they could not get the cover off so they dug around it a couple m's down but why doesn't telkom have a thick pipe or something covering the stuff? It looks easy to get the cables, dig and you got them. I am not sure what they do fromt here but i have heard they grab and just pull. Unplugging so many people :(

I am worried now, mickey don't me worried bru, no adsl will force me to flippin pack my shyte and move haha. Cannot live without my gaming and without adsl that is gone.

I hope so because we also run a business, the lines are not an issue but having to use iburst makes me a sad puppy. No more downloads, slow internet, slow email. On cloudy days barely any interwebs hahaha.

I hope your comment was just said to make me happy LOL :(
