DStv piracy arrests follow-up

Why would anyone pirate DSTV when it so much easier to pirate good quality content??? :D

Flip....Multichoice just reduce the cost of the premium package and you won't have to deal with people trying to pirate your system! Simple :)

Good question. I wouldnt even bother trying to piratw their overcompressed blocky shyte video or their lame excuse for HD

DSTV are a bunch of tossers, their content is beyond pathetic, their pricing irrational and their service appalling!

DSTV is way over priced and all their programs are old. Its a complete waste of money!

MultiChoice added that Dreamboxes may never be used to watch DStv

what a pile of crap! Forced to use their shoddy equipment! They can shove their decoders where the sun don't shine.

You can compare pirating dstv to stealing those dvd's on special, R10 for 3.

Well it's not as if these guys were ripping shows and then posting .avis online. They were bypassing the security to allow illegal access. Throw the book at them IMO.

The only real case against these guys is that they tried to sell the services.... for that I feel they deserve to go to jail.

For setting up Dreamboxes ? I hope this guy sues for wrongful arrest.

Multichoice, arresting the competition ;)

Well, the dude selling the hardware, not the naughty pirates. He might even have a case against the State for wrongful arrest. If his story can be trusted.

Really dislike Multichoice, but not for the above reasons.

MultiChoice added that Dreamboxes may never be used to watch DStv (not even when using it with a legal smart card). “The DStv service is designed to operate with DStv decoders and SIM cards.
So does that mean Multichoice will also have anyone who decodes the signal with their DVB-S capable TV and a legal smart card arrested? That's beyond daft.

RE. bypassing the security to allow illegal access
They should be treated with the same severity as the skollie who breaks your door down to gain illegal access to your house and, if arrested, is out on the street again within an hour or so.

Misread the title - I thought the pirates were the one's extorting exorbitant monthly rentals

No offense multi choice, but I can see why your services are being pirated...almost touching on R600 pm... go figure.

5-6% annually, before we know it we will pay R1000pm.

Internet prices are coming down a helluva lot, if push comes to shove I'll cancel DSTV and stream all my video needs, the only thing I will miss is the sport...which I have lost track with anyway.

I had a dreambox overseas....and it works perfectly, I lost count on how many channels I had....all I had to pay was my internet connection, even on a 512k connection it ran just perfectly :P

Wish a pirate make contact with me, want to save on the exorbitant high prices I have to pay.

Premium + PVR + decoder insurance is just about R700pm.
