What are the numbers?

Lady at work said she could get someone to help me for R4000. I was under the impression that it could be done cheaper. Checked online, a lady is offering to do it for R1000. Still thought i could go cheaper?

It's a normal no fault contract, ANC contract with me getting full custody. Nothing needs to be divided up or fought for. Is it possible? I'm sure i've seen peopel talking about it being very cheap

Do it your self just go get the papers from the divorce court .total will be about R300 including the sheriff serving papers.
3 pages to fill in and one for statistics.

I know of someone that did it for R69, no frills , no complications - all it takes is your time. The costs come into play when u pay lawyers to do the paperwork. Also gets expensive when one spouse contests the divorce / settlement.
A divorce does not have to be complicated, people make it complicated.
If u seeking legal counsel why go pay $$$$ when u can go to the family life center , pay a fraction of what it would cost u for a lawyer and get the same service. The going rate is R300 for a consultation - try find a divorce lawyer who will charge u that amount.
Point is - if u want to get it done cheaply , you can do so, just need to know how :)

thanks, all i wanted to know :) figured it could be that easy. i thought the name of the contract is a "no faults" contract or something to that effect

If noone is at fault then why are you getting divorced?

I do not understand what you are referring to - the marriage contract? What is a no fault contract? There is no such a thing in SA Law.

Will need to check the details with my wife but you should be able to get it a lot cheaper than that.

Basically you just have an agreement with regards to the divorce. Goto the court on a Friday with your original marriage certificates and look for a junior advocate or one who is still busy with pupilage. They stand up and do the bit in front of the judge free of charge and you are divorced.

Missing some steps here and there but that's the just of it.

There is no such thing as full custody in the New Childrens Act. Its now equal shared parenting. Custody no longer exists.
The cheapest you will get is aprox R13,000-16,000 via a Mediator whole will file the papers and present the parenting plan to the Family Advocate . If everything is agreed between the parties then it will be the lower figure through a mediator at http://www.saam.org.za/ Lawyers will charge you much more because their professional fees per hour are literally double or triple those of mediators. If children are not involved you can DIY online for around R1000 but children issues change the ball game.
My own little adventure was a 3 year torture drawn out affair and overshot 1M. It's still costing me. You don't want to go down that road but mediation failed for me and will fail for many unfortunately. Then you go to litigation and thats when things get very nasty and very very expensive especially once you enter the portals of the High Court and deal in the shadowy world of Silks.
So do yourself a favour go to the fathers4justice website and download critical modules regarding child issues for a nominal fee and then get a good mediator. If you are on the same page it wont cost the world.

everyone has different opinions on this :p

omg, how do poor people get divorced? :D
