Has anyone managed to establish a connection on the 3G network?

Any idea when cellc will enable for all clients?

I was able to register on the Vodacom 3G network at home, where there is some Cell-C coverage, but didn't try to establish a data connection.

Where I work, where there is zero Cell-C coverage, I have not been able to register on the Vodacom 3G network and I've tried several times.

I found a strange thing. With my Galaxy S1 I can't register on Vodacom 3G at all. With my Nokia 6680 I can register and that with the same sim card. I can make calls on Vodacom 3G but as soon as I try to make a data connection, the network signal drops completely.

I checked again at home by forcing my phone to 3G only and then setting manual network selection. I can register on Vodacom 2G but not Vodacom 3G.

I'll just put this here so long for when the 'switch on' finally happens.

Comparing roaming and home network traceroutes

I roam on MTN with 8ta and get 70 ms ping and 250 -300 ms to Diablo servers so I dunno:P
It would be interesting to compare that with what you get on 8ta, but I guess due to the fact you are roaming, you don't have 8ta coverage?

It would help a lot if we could get some feedback from CellC? Please?

I can tell u this, when 8ta side is working. I get better ping to local servers when roaming with 8Ta on mtn and when I use Mtn I get better ping to EU

Yea I have no 8ta signal

AFAIK, that's because the roaming agreement is only for the towers. After the call or data connection crosses the airwaves from phone to tower, the voice call / data packets are then forwarded onto 8.ta's network.

So except for the last mile connection, you're still on the 8.ta network, and subject to their latencies, as well as local and international backhaul. International backhaul for Telkom/8.ta is primarily on SAT3, while for MTN is now primarily EASSY and WACS. Hence the difference in latencies to Europe.

Cell C 3G roaming deal with Vodacom active yet?

I'm currently in a remote part of South Africa that has no Cell C coverage. When I use my Cell C speedstick with a SmartData sim card, I automatically roam on Vodacom's network on Edge. However, I thought Cell C recently signed a deal with Vodacom to roam on their 3G network with immediate effect. Why can't I roam on Vodacom's 3G network?

I forgot to add, there's definitely 3G coverage here, cos my HTC Desire has a Vodacom sim card, and I can connect to 3G on that no problem.

It works for me. I'm at shell ultra city middelburg, and have had 3G signal all the way from PTA.

Initial speed tests :

A bit slow, but a LOT better than piddly edge.

Strange, I've tried everything to force the speedstick to use 3G. When I try to manually select a network, I can see the Vodacom Edge and Vodacom 3G networks in the list of available networks, and both networks are listed as "Available", but when I try to select the Vodacom 3G network, it gives an error saying "Failed to logon".

Weird.

I've done a spot check, and I got a 3G signal most of the times between Middelburg and Nelspruit. Only spotty place was Schoemanskloof - I prefer the Schoemanskloof route as it avoids that  Sappi factory.

Getting vodacom 3G in the work's basement... works fine for me.

guys how do I force voda 3g on a SGS2 and HTC Hero I am struggling here in Tekwane South my phone always roam to Voda but I get that R with no internet

Steynsrus, can be considered "remote" with 3G vodacom coverage. Can't roam on 3G with CellC.

Isn't there a list of enabled towns/cities?
