Vodacom 3G roaming

it appears this 3g roaming story is a hoakes.
only edge here, and its very slow. just opening tapatalk takes a minute.
 
It had been discussed already that 2G roaming was only enabled in areas of poor coeverage. The same I can expect now with 3G roaming. But if you don't have Cell C coverage in your area and Vodacom rejects connection, speak to Cell_C giving your details and Vodacom towers Cell ID.
 
we have cell c coverage, and i phoned the local cell c dealer and they said they have 3G coverage since august 2012.

i have a cell c contract but i dont use the cim, a rather use my vodacom prepaid due to the no-3g-coverage issue

In such case you have a reason to contact Cell_C rep on this forum with your details and let them investigate. They claim that there is coverage in your area, for this reason they didn't enable roaming on your local Vodacom tower. But you have no 3G nor roaming.
The other possibility is that your 3G modem device is not Cell C compatible. To be compatible, it must support 3G (UMTS) on 900MHz in addition to 2100MHz used by other networks.

Can we get a list of towns with 3G roaming enabled?

I'm in one of those towns where CellC 3G misses us and where the CellC 2G doesn't even work. Can only currently roam on Vodacom 2G, but would like to do so on 3G.

That's if that awesome promo isn't excluded from roaming like 8ta's deal?

Harding kzn had 3G two months ago
last month only edge
how come?
 
Has anyone figured out why some people are unable to connect to vodacom 3G from cell c sim? Has Cell_C rep been anle to help? No one at the call centre seem to know about roaming on vodacom.

oh really? Are you quite sure of that? Reason I ask it because of this

Are you saying that there is no agreement with Cell C and VocacoN?

edit : I'd appreciate a response, and not a typical Vodacom head-in-the-sand approach

My dad wants to get an iphone but have had the issue where only Vodacom has a good signal in our area in CT. Not wanting to sign up for Vodacom's insane rates, today I got 8ta and CellC sims to test things out.

A CellC call dropped within a few seconds. The 8ta one a bit better but not great. Then I thought I'd try the roaming option. I went into my settings and manually searched for networks. There was a Vodacom 2g and 3g option. Chose 3g, tried a call and it was perfect.

So it seems to work on my blackberry. Am I right in saying that roaming won't work for data and that the rate remains at 99c a minute even when using Vodacom?

It is obvious that agreement has been signed. I think Cell_C is saying that it hasn't been implemented yet, or not implemented fully, so that it can be advertised to the customers.
 
3G Data Roaming

I was driving through the Karoo the other day and noticed for large stretches the data signal would show R.

This meant that Google Maps was unable to provide me with directions.

I thought Cell C had entered an agreement with Vodacom for 3G roaming.

Do I need to enable something to have my phone switch to Vodacom where there is no Cell C coverage?
 
Make sure your APN is "internet" and your data roaming is on. At the moment only Edge with Vodacom. (That I know of)
 
We should really get some clarification from CellC regarding this. Weird that they had a press statement with no implementation.
