Play Store reaches 25 billion downloads, Google starts celebrations with app promotions

Android has reached yet another impressive milestone, as the Google Play Store just passed 25 billion downloaded apps. And to allow you to join in on the celebrations, Google is offering some very tempting app promotions for the next five days.

That’s right, every day for the next five days, Google will sell high quality apps from top developers such as Gameloft, Electronic Arts, Rovio, runtastic, Full Fat and more for just 25 cents.

However, the discount fiesta isn’t limited to just apps, as Google will also put up collections of 25 must-have movies, books, magazines and 25 albums at a special price.

Google will update its Play Store with the list of discounted items later today. Until then, here’s what Google makes of the 25 billion downloads.

Twenty-five billion is more than twice the distance, in miles, that the Voyager 1 spacecraft has travelled since its launch 35 years ago. It’s the amount of time, in minutes, that have passed since some of our earliest ancestors began to set foot in Europe. And now, thanks to all of you, it’s a Google Play milestone. We look forward to the next 25 billion.

Angry Birds Space is on sale? I got it for free from the very same store. :confused:

Very limited selection. But then again you can get apps for free elsewhere.

My thinking is that the offers will change on a daily basis like last time so do not hesitate to much. Reason I think it will is that the ad banner on Google show apps that is not on todays list (Where is my Peri and Paper cam)

Anyway, Picked up Asphalt 7 and Office Pro for R2 each, waiting for new ones.

I paid 8 bucks for Asphalt 7, it's basically a paid version of Freemium

I suspected that. Asphalt 6 is $4.99 on IOS but 7 is only 99 cents. I hate freemium traps.

I love freemium again thanks to root + Game guardian, esp when the game is free like Dead Trigger. On iOS again with jailbreak and a certain Russian server you can have all the currency you want.

Anyway, I think most of the people complaining about freemium games are youngsters or people that forgot about the old Arcade games. I remember feeding plenty of those cabinets a healthy diet of coins back in the day.

I haven't found anything that I needed to buy in game with real money yet.
Am I missing something?

Its like GT Racing (Paid version) where you can either follow the career to open up maps & cars or "cheat" and buy your way to end game? Its for the "instant gratification" society we live in now.

I don't actually mind that, although it defeats the purpose of playing the game.
If other people want to waste their money that way, I wouldn't stop them;
as long as there's a way to finish the game without needing to spend more real money in it.
