iPhone 5 warning in South Africa

The South African launch date for the iPhone 5 is still uncertain, but industry speculation suggests that it may be as soon as this month.

Was the article posted a day early?

Tech specs from the Apple website show that all 3 models can work in SA using GSM 900/1800MHz

Please update article to state that it only affects LTE. 3G still works fine.

I've added the specs to the comments on the "editorial" article, hopefully someone will now rewrite the article to show some truth rather than the ill informed writing currently displayed.

My iphone5 works fine. Some of the people are probably importing the locked ones from network providers overseas.

LOL

I see the comments are being censored on the "article"

Strange, as the post that's disappeared just listed the specifications and pointed out that all 3 variants contain the normal GSM frequencies, and suggested the "article" should be edited for accuracy and truth.

Hi, can anyone help then. Which model/s will eventually work if vodacom and MTN roll out LTE? I am out the country at the moment and want to buy one. Thanks

"Model A1429" will work. Just double check that the phone is unlocked. The ones from the apple stores generally are.

Please don't assume malice without at least trying to find out if there's another possible explanation.

Disqus' spam filter has become very aggressive and now there are about 10 false positives every two weeks. It's not something we check regularly because of the infrequency of the mistakes (when last did you check your spam folder?).

Anyway, your post's been approved. The next time this happens please feel free to drop me a line directly - I can't guarantee I'll spot complaints on the forum because I don't watch every thread.

Even so, some people are reporting issues with disapearing 3G signal on Vodacom.

Seems like the only tangible improvement in the iphone5 is the .5 inch screen enlargement.
