Selective memory from the Cell C CEO

Thanks for this jes.
Everyone here's been having a go at Shameel Joosub this week 'cos he, and Vodacom, have certainly deserved it but AKC getting in on the act is a little off-colour for me. Pot, meet Kettle... Also, as far as I am concerned, Lars made a big difference at cell c, Alan... Well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Its fairly simple I couldn't care less what ether of them say in public, actions speak loader than words.

Has vodacom actually brought us any worth wild specials in the past 3 years, have they even attempted to simplify there T&C, have they even once considered giving the customer what they actually need?

No.

Cell C is breaking new ground I couldn't care less who is leading them, or why there doing it, as long as I can save money (and Yes I do a lot) I am happy.

I agree with you. The same could be said for any business. The only difference is CellC is making it "cool" to save money. Vodacon can't do it, since they will seem "cheap" to their current elitist clients.

So either way CellC will win.

This isn't a selective memory. This is living in the present.

He had a fiduciary duty towards Vodacom and that is no longer a factor. Now it's to Cell C... in fact, the fact that he was the one who 'built' Vodacom makes it even better because he knows all the dirty tricks.

I think it's great and 100% natural that he's now outing Vodacom (himself in the past) for the benefit of his current employer (and thus indirectly, the consumer).

And there’s more to come. By the end of next year, mobile voice, SMS and data tariffs will be unrecognisable from what we’re paying today. The competitive landscape too will look different. Over the next year or two, the market share of Vodacom, MTN and Cell C will morph from the current 50/35/15 (round numbers) to a situation of 40/35/20/5 (again, round numbers, with 8.ta taking a small share of the market by then).

Joosub at Vodacom and Pienaar at MTN are more than up for Knott-Craig’s fight.

While I agree that Cell C is already gaining market share and that Vodacom will continue to lose market share, and that 8ta will gain some traction, I completely disagree with Hilton Tarrant on MTN's market share staying as is. I think MTN is already losing market share to Cell C.

Apart from that, I agree with Hilton Tarrant, AKC's memory is defective and AKC should get himself checked out by a medical professional who is qualified to diagnose dementia, if it isn't a result of Alzheimers or similar then AKC is simply being disingenuous in the hopes that we all have Alzheimers and don't remember how he raped our wallets when he sat on the throne currently occupied by Joosub.

100% correct. All we want is cheap calls and data. What allen did 5 years back does not matter. Not for hilton looks like.

Everyone has selective memory, especially so when it suits them. Then there is the premise that if you tell a partial truth long enough, it will become part of history and will not be doubted. Its only us razor-sharp minds on MyBB that can dissect the truth from the lies

Come to think of it - AKC is actually brilliant - he have done his best at Vodacom, now he is doing his best at CellC. All the years at VodaCom he has known that the clients were being ripped of and now he has got a chance to do something for us. Since he set up CellC as a disrupter things has started happening at VodaCom and MTN. We should say kudo's to AKC!

Bear in mind I felt the same as all above...

This is 100% correct, AKC put us all in the situation we are in however in this industry, its mainly about price, isn't it?
He is helping the consumer now so we all forget the pain he put us through.

I do however believe that since he left, Vodacom started their downward spiral.
The network and service was never this bad under his watch.

AKC is trying to correct the wrongs he did to the consumer while he was with Vodacom. This is commendable!

The questions are:
1. Will Cell C CEO maintence the strategy of competiting on price and for how long?
2. Is this price competitiveness only aimed at capturing the market share to his stated 25%?
3. What happens after this target market share is achieved? Will Cell C increase mobile prices to bring them in line with competitors?

For consumers sakes I hope the Cell C CEO will remain true to what he is advocating now.

I love Alan for what he is doing now,he convinced me to buy a cell c sim and discard my Voda sim,it's just the contract strings that are firmly holding me tight for MTN
