DStv: “Our repeat rate is lower than most countries”

I was watching Children Of The Damned on TCM last night when I decided that I'll just catch the repeat, I scoured the tv guide and couldn't find a repeat so had to record it instead. So yeah, they don't repeat when you need them to. :mad:
 
Even if that was true, their subcription is still far higher.

A coupe of years ago I ended my DSTV subscription, decided to subscribe again little over a year later and they were repeating stuff I already saw, and there I thought new programmes would be available for me to view.

Repeats are nice for someone like myself that works during the day and don't have recording facilities, but why do they always seem to repeat the shows during working hours? Makes no sense to me.

True that!!! This happens when you have a Monopoly! Other competitors can not offer the channels that multichoice have available.

AFAIK that is how they advertise that channel, movies that premier on MNET will be run 30 mins later on 103....
 
It doesn't matter either way. SA has the best sports coverage on earth and we pay little for it compared to other countries. Everything other than sport is a bonus.

No, it is fact. First, it's self explanatory (sports rights cost a fortune everywhere in the world and Multichoice has all of the rights relevant to SA). Secondly, my step-dad was chatting to a Multichoice exec on a golf course a while ago and he said Supersport is what they're all about (my dad was asking about the repeats and lack of popular TV shows). Over 90% of their license fees goes on Supersport and it's what viewers regard as the most important, according to their focus groups and surveys.
 
I'm really impressed at how quickly they are getting TV series these days, I don't even bother downloading some anymore as it's easier to just PVR them.
 
Whenever people have crap that repeats itself, they take some Immodium[SUP]TM[/SUP]

Maybe we can get DSTV an industrial prescription?
 
Yeah, right. They added a bunch of new movie channels, and now they're playing 100s of movies from the 80s and 90s. Their repeat rate is low because they're playing old crap everyone has either seen before or nobody cares about.

The fact that you prove it is fact just p155e5 me off (not at you). I got DSTV for movies, discovery and history. I don't care for sports one little bit. So if 90% of my fee goes towards something I care less for then I am on the fast track out the door.

I have been working on the family for a few months now to let DSTV go. My wife finally gave me the go ahead this weekend so my cancellation will be going in shortly.
 
I reactivated my subscription this month after a three month break. Last night felt like watching some Discovery ID (or was it Crime & Inveestigation). When I switched over Medical Detectives was playing. The episode was about a boy in college who hired his friend to kill his parents.

I watched that same episode before I cancelled three months ago.

But then again, I have DSTV solely for sport and cartoons for the kids. :)

I actually agree with this. Our family barely uses the sports channels. Only time it gets used is for the occasional rugby game, so it's not nice to hear that the incredibly high price you're paying is for something you barely use.
