Has anyone tried the new Axxess News Groups Server?

URL: news.internet.co.za
Port 119

  • How many days retention?
  • What are the speeds like?
  • Do they carry most of the news groups?

Just tested quick using grabit and an NZB from nzbindex.nl
Ran over 500KB/s

Any idea why it asks for authentication on some of the threads?
I'm with Afrihost.

Set it to 10 threads and 5 need authentication???

*EDIT***

Hmmmm... OK, set it 5 threads and all is well now...

Thanks for this!

10 - 5 = Only 5 connections allowed.

news.internet.co.za (81.171.92.222) - Seems like they are using highwinds.

Mmmmm, using Astraweb account with 20 connections, getting no more than 350KB/s. What am I doing wrong here?

SSL encrypted port 563

10mb line

I am also having problems connecting to newsgroups server using an Axxess uncapped account - this stopped working on Thursday last week for me.

Changed server details as per Axxess support to: news.internet.co.za
"Error: Cannot connect to server news.internet.co.za:119 [501 user Name|pass Password]"
If I connect using my 'Axxess Lite' account then this connects fine, but the uncapped account demands a username & password?
Still waiting on Axxess support to resolve.
Obviously I choose to use my uncapped account for this...

Configured as follows:
Host: news.internet.co.za
Port: 119
Username: [blank]
Password: [blank]
Connections: 2 [Push this up to 5 - more and you'll get login errors in your log]
Retention time: 365 days [You can push this up to 1315 days, apparently]
Timeout: 120 Seconds
Enable: [ticked]
SSL: [not ticked]
Backup server: [not ticked]
Optional: [not ticked]

I guess its time to look for another ISP...

EDIT - Resolved

Imsomnia im having the same issue with mine as well. Were they able to resolve?

It looks like my issue has been resolved - tech support contacted me late last night to confirm.

EDIT:
You can push up the Connections to 5 - more than that and you'll get these same errors in your log again.
According to a little research Article Retention is supposed to be 1315 days on Highwinds...

Im Still having the same issue, WAs in contact with support last night, they even tested it on there side and said they would escalate to a team manager, But still problem is persisting, Even if i use 1-5 connections, Both on grabit and on SABnzbd i get an authentication error for username and password..

Insomnia did they state what was wrong or what needed to be done?

Are you using Grabit and SABnzbd at the same time? I think it's max 5 connections per IP address.
When I had this problem I set my connections to 4 and also restarted my ADSL router before trying again.

Hey m0zy.

Nope, never at the same time, Always shut down one, But even if both were open wouldnt the one atleast connect.

Gonna try change acount for like a hour and hopefully get a new IP and see if that helps.

Ive also tried with 1-5 connections..

I got no explanation - it just came right on my side after a few hours, so I don't know what happened behind the scenes...
I did go through the usual restart & reboot router too to get a fresh IP.
...using SABnzbd, disabled other servers (news.axxess.co.za & news.isdsl.net) set 5 connections, no errors in the log all day...
I must say that there is still an error if I test the server in the config that the "server requires a username and password", but this has not affected the connectivity...

I tested using grabit. Straight out the box clean install. News.internet.co.za with the default port and 5 concurrent connections. It just works. I pulled my NZB for testing from nzbindex.nl - I see on here there are certain NZB's that are password protected so maybe that's where some are having issues?
