Free Gmail and Google+ on 8ta

Free Gmail, Google+ web services on 8ta

8ta and Google recently unveiled Free Zone for Google services on the 8ta network

Clever...

My business is on Google for business.
Presumably using a mail client (like the one on the iPad) to a GMail server will also be exempt?

Excellent move.
I have kept all my business mobile devices on short term pre-paid 3G because the market is changing so much
This will definitely influence my choices particularly with tablets

So this won't really work from the GMail app as it specifically mentions "mobile browser"?

Here's the live stream of the announcement, for those interested in watching it. Its almost over, it seems.

Thanks. Jan.

Great that you can do all that on a prepaid sim with ZERO balance as he demonstrated.

Free Zone will be trialled until 31 May 2013, 8ta said.
And is it available immediately?

8ta just keep rocking my socks off these last few months.

First they offer incredible value for money - I went for their R600 BIS Voucher deal and almost 6 months later I still have R470 airtime left. That's 6 months of free BIS and 500MB Streaming Data free per month. Not to mention the send-5-get-50 SMS deal and the 3-to-1 calltime earning benefit.

They also give me support via Twitter!

On the weekend I went to buy an 8ta microSIM and a Vodacom microSIM. Vodacom charged R40 for the SIM. 8ta gave it to me for free. More awesomeness!

Now this? Gmail is one of the primary reasons for even having data on my phone. Sure I'm on BB so this doesn't affect me specifically, but it's definitely awesome.

Way to go 8ta! <waves her biased pom-poms furiously>

As per the T's and C's it will only work on phones and not tablets - 8ta Freezone

Yay.

Now I can use my Nokia 5230 with 8ta SIM :D

By the by, I assume it will also work for iPad2 with an 8ta SIM? Gotta try that :)

Keeps taking me to Out of Bundle notification page. I will have to topup first:(

8ta’s senior managing executive, Amith Maharaj, said that he was really proud bring this service to market, adding that it requires flexible and cutting edge technology and billing systems to do so.

I cannot and will not argue with that, one only has to look in the direction of one of 8ta's competitors to see blood red when the OOB Shark attacks since that useless company has not bothered to redesign its billing systems and implement realtime data usage monitoring (that company has repeatedly been "making a killing" since December 2005).
