Nokia Lumia 920 launched in SA, contract pricing comparison

I was hoping these phones would go for R299 on contract, that would burn competition.

I think prepaid, knowing how crazy the providers are here in SA, will be about R9000

This is CRAZY!! why on earth would you even consider buying this phone, WP8 is already out and this phone is OLD before its even launched in SA... CRAZY!!!

Wow most retarded statement of the year.

For the love of a windows phone, this is a must-have, wonder how much it costs on pre-paid,

100MB...150MB...250MB...300MB... :erm: for a freakin' high-end smart phone?? So OOB shark food contracts then.

I am deciding on a new phone, should I get the iPhone5, the Samsung Galaxy S3, or this Nokia Lumia 920? Which one is best?

The iPhone 5 is simply overpriced. Pure hype. More a fashion statement than anything else, especially now that the Lumia 920 has everything that the iPhone 5 has and more. I hear you saying what about apps. Alright, there is an advantage that the iPhone 5 has, but thats it.

GSIII = now long in the tooth. I hear the GSIV is already on its way.

With Lumia 920 there are some practical advantages / uses that it has - besides the fact that it is a sturdy device. Use with gloves (super sensitive screen), OIS and low light pics that Engadget.com calls "camera magic". Have I mentioned built-in wireless charging and of course NFC. The LTE actually works in SA (unlike iPhone 5's). Vodacom's is already running. WP8 is also a feature particularly because of the seamlessness of transition between Win8 (your PC) and WP8 (your mobile). This integratedness has numerous benefits now and there will be even more benefits with time. One of which is once you know what is on one you will know what to expect on the other since it is virtually the same system.

It seems I'll be getting mine for R369/mth on TopUp. Looks like best option - no OoB shark beyond what you have in your phone.

By the way is there somewhere where I can check Vodacom's LTE coverage?

no ways will I pay R369 for R135 airtime and no minutes or data... such a fail!

will be looking at this perhaps

AnyTime 200 R399 R200 25 150MB

I have been on Anytime and I ended up paying like R600/mth every month. Right now I live on R100 worth of airtime and buy data bundles so I can live with that.

R369/mth is the price I pay for freedom i.e. control of my life i.e. my expenses.

I am sure there is a decent data bundle that I can get for R50 to R100 per month, when I want it.

Besides, most of my data consumption is on my laptop. I also plan to get a Win8 tablet so thats where my data will be.

Regardless of all the nice features the Lumia 920 packs, I still cannot bring myself to carry 185 grams of phone around with me. I keep thinking the Samsung Ativ S or the HTC 8x will suit me better simply due to their respective weights.

And, I am reminded about the early 3G Motorola phones. They were a lot bulkier than other manufacturer's devices and the only reason I could come up with for this difference was that Motorola were not willing to use newer components that would reduce the device's size and weight. Or Nokia just had to make the polycarbonate shell really thick for added strength.

Final thought: this phone will be obsoleted in 18 months at most. For my professional use, I will wait for the second crop of WP8 devices and will buy the cheapest one I can.
