Munnik Basson Dagama Inc (MBD), Attorneys have been up to their unseemly shena****ns for some 10 years. Consumer websites are awash with complaints about this firm. And they're still at it. ..."Copied and Pasted".

I don't know how you people sleep at night knowing that you ruin peoples lives and EVEN cause suicides. And all this knowing that you you are a party to this.
I have a large dossier of all the complaints and will show this to the magistrate. You people are vultures and thrive on the vulnerable. You will not beat me. I even have affidavits from YOUR ex employees stating the psychological methods you use that are illegal.
You cannot win. Try me at a court of law. I challenge you.

I always love a challenge. They have threatened to take me to court for an account that I know nothing about dating back to 1998. I sent the above email reply to them. I know that even if the account is mine, it is prescribed by now.
They phone me at all times of the day and night about this account and will not let me get a word in due to their continuous monologue shouting.
We will see who wins.

Get a new phone number? End the call if they phone? Seriously they can do nothing to you, just let it go and don't talk to them.

This lot intrigues me, how do they get away with it??

The husband has been harassed by them before for a tv license even thou our license has been in my name for a number of years..yes we are plebs who pay ours...no matter how many times I sent our marriage license, up to date tv license etc blah, they still called...only when I threatened them with harassment did they stop and we haven't heard from them again!

A colleague is also currently being pestered by this lot, they call for him about 5 times a day, no shytt!! I just tell them I'm not allowed to put their calls through during business hours but they still call. Terrible bunch!

Sorry last thing..I would also like to know how the big companies like fnb, woolworths etc can allow themselves to be associated with these thugs??

They dont, these pigs buy up old debtors books and then fraudulently claim that they represent the banks and these companies.
They even buy up old application forms from technicons(sorry about spelling) and then send students who completed them letters of demand.

I wish somebody will take them and the others i.e. VVM to task, especially VVM with their TV license collections.

Very few people are aware of the fact that most debt prescribe after three years and these companies prey on this lack of knowledge. Most companies i.e. the banks sell of their debtor books once it reaches this point as they are aware that they cannot collect on these debts anymore and or that it will be very difficult to collect these debts.

The above said firms are also well aware of this but come with their scare tactics and get most people to settle these debts on which they earn some major profits as they usually buy these debtor books at discounts of up to 70% after which they inflate the outstanding debt with their 'collection fees' and other charges.

In some cases they earn easily over 100% on the 'written-off' debt they bought. A very profitable business if you can scare enough people into paying their old debts.

Ohh ok, so the banks etc dont know/care about the tactics used by them?

@MK...isn't VVM the same group and Mdb?

Shame, I was just reading some of the complaints on hellopeter and it's shocking..a lot of people are really in a state about being harassed by this lot. Also see a lot of people thinking they are nearly finished paying their debt and when they call for a statement, they almost always actually owe more than when they started paying.

Not sure about that, AFAIK they are separate firms. I know VVM deals mostly with TV licenses.

They've been hounding me for the past 4 years to try and collect the outstanding fees for the past 11 odd years. Its crazy, an amount of over R8,000. I had a TV license on my name. When I got married I stopped paying as my wife had one. Sent the SABC a registered letter back then about this together with our marigage certificate and all.

Tried to sort this out with VVM and the SABC but all just fell on deaf ears so I added them to my ignore list on my phone and set their emails to junk. Since then I have not heard from them :D

Best is to politely ask them to hold on. .... keep them holding on as long as you can.

Haha, yep..I do that a lot too..when things are quiet at work, my colleague will tell me to put the call through and he will say just hang a sec..then puts the phone on his desk and sing songs, whistle, have a convo about nothing in particular...we have had a good few laughs. He also sometimes pretends to be too drunk to talk :D

@Mk..Yar..I must have sent our marriage license 50 times..makes me wonder what they do with all the copies? Also, every time I spoke to them..the amount changed..from 5k one week to 1k the next and anything in between. Bastards!

Now, in between the shouting over the phone he heard me say that the NCA states that a debt is prescribed after 3 years of no activity in the account and that the bank had not summoned me or had a judgement against me for this account. This REALLY peeved him off. He started calling me stupid and I don't know the law and carried on and on and on. I got so worked up that I shouted back at him that he is a "Stupid dam ka**er" and hung up.
Do you think I'm in trouble now?

Moral high ground lost. Call recorded.

This, we have been ignoring them for years now.
Everytime they call now, we just laugh and hang up on them.

Ouch!! Bad move on your behalf!

Debt expires after 3 years? Explain?

This only applies if you never acknowledge the debt.

The will always try to get you to acknowledge the debt unscrupulously. They will say something like " if you won the lotto, would you pay up?" Of you answer yes, your defence of prescription falls away

If a debt is not acknowledged or paid for 3 years, it becomes prescribed and should be written off. If however you acknowledge the debt after the three years it can be reinstated.

This does not count for tv licenses. Those take 30 years.
