BIS and BlackBerry 10 plans explained

Sad news indeed if they are to do away with BIS, thats the reason why I am using Blackberry.

Isn't all the talking, negotiating and how everything works supposed to have been ironed out before the global launch ... ?

Because none of our carriers had one of the phones most likely.

Nobody could demo it.

Also, its only in SA where our data is too expensive for the poor.

Blackberry is trying to cater for the whole world, just looking at SA as an exception must be a tremendous amount of work.

The only reason parents buy their children BB has got nothing to do with the phone but rather more about BIS.

Yip. My oldest have BB with BIS (and the wife). Saves money (a crapload of money). Have ADSL so no need to download on BB.

Is BIS still viable?

You can now get 500 MB for R45 from Cell C. That is way more than what the average BIS user consumes.

I do not think this is a big deal, users should just ensure that they have caps on their data.

The reason BIS is dropped is because the BB 10 will consume much more data than previous generation phones. BB might still zero rate BBM traffic and possibly corporate BES EMail traffic to stay relevant.

The real damage was done by some users who abused the system. The fact that you now use the average internet APN will actualy improve BB experience.

I am seriously considering BB 10 but still leaning towards WP8 Lumia 920? I might go with BB10 just because I will have the Windows experience on my Dell XPS 12.

Decisions, decisions!

You'll just get a 500MB or 1GB cap...will stop all the abusers....
for normal users it will be business as usual...

Good for them :)

But there is a difference if you buy your kid a 2K BB phone with BIS vs a 8K BB10 phone with a prepaid databundle. I can promise you that even if you are going to get your kids a BB10 with a 1GB databundle it will be gone in no time - youtube, videocalling etc will burn through data in no time.

You'll probably get 50mb max with vodacom and mtn.

Can we have a few more bb10 atricles as the first 15 explain next to nothing.

Where are these detials, all I have seen around the Web is unhappiness over BIS being done away with< if africa is cuurently thier biggest growth poinmt they need to ask why!

+1
Which is cheaper R59 BIS (currently unlimited) or a 1gig package which is way more than R60.

Africa might be their biggest growth point but the service providers is their biggest pain and they want in on the action.

What a misleading article title - absolutely nothing was really explained. Everything sounds like it is still up in the air and BB just gave the typical marketing run-around the questions... Rather call the article BlackBerry 10 plans still unclear!

If you look at Vodafone UK you will see that their Z10 offer is quite awesome: 47GBP per months over 24 months which includes unlimited voice/sms, 2GB mobile internet and 3GB Wifi access. The sub includes the phone and no other pay in.

I think if Vodacom or MTN where to price the Vodafone UK offering, it will probably cost you 2k p.m. and a 3K pay in - lol....
