D-Link DSL-2750u in half-bridge mode / bridging

Hi there

I am trying to achieve the following:

• Configure D-Link DSL2750u with default Afrihost ADSL account
• Allow visitors or work devices to use their own PPPoE connections via the main DSL line at home

Basically, I want my Xbox360 to use my personal Afrihost account via the DSL router, as well as my wireless devices (e.g. smartphone etc.) but when I use my work PC, I want to manually tell it to connect to the "work ADSL" account via bridging mode on my router.

The problems I'm encountering are:

1. I don't really know much about bridging besides how it can sometimes work (when configured properly )
2. I don't know the difference between half-bridge and full-bridge mode but I suspect the latter requires manual intervention in all devices and the former allows devices by default to use the hard-coded authentication on the router if nothing is manually specified on the device itself
3. The other posts on this matter tell us to find a setting Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports but the closets I can see is Enable multiple PPP connections over one VC/VLAN tag option available
4. If I set my router to "bridging" mode protocol then it doesn't ask for authentication credentials which means (I think) it is FULL-BRIDGE mode (if my understanding is correct) and devices like my Xbox wouldn't be able to use any internet via the ADSL router while the router is set up like this. When I do manual connections via PPPoE on my PC it works fine.
5. If I leave my router in PPPoE Protocol with LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING Encapsulation mode ticked and Enable multiple PPP connections over one VC/VLAN tag option available ticked then I cannot use the PC's PPPoE connection.

Any advice on how I can achieve the (simple?) objective of having a default router account for DSL for devices that don't manually specify their own PPPoE accounts with the DSL-2750u D-LINK router?

I've got a D-Link 2500U - if the settings are the same / similar when you go to 192.168.1.1 , then try this after typing your username / pwrd. :

Advanced Setup - WAN - click on EDIT (far right of all the blocks) ... then new screen opens - click Next , Next again, and tick Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports.

But you'll need to get other settings right, as well.
Setting up half-bridge is no walk in the park, which is what I found out, as a relative novice - especially when using a separate wireless router (which is my setup).

I think that your model is a wireless modem / router in one, so should be easier. I landed up phoning D-Link in PTA for a few of the final settings ; Support Number:- 08600 DLINK (35465) or Office: +27 (12) 661 2025 (spoke to Altus at the time).

If you find you're missing a few settings just re-post what they are, and either I or hopefully someone else can list what you should put into the router to finish off.

Decided to post settings I have in 2500U for half-bridge mode, which should help you - but, note that I also have other things setup in a TP-Link router. You'll probably be missing some info. from that below.

I don't exactly understand the setup you want so you may need to fine-tune things afterwards, anyway.

WAN - Edit

Port = 0
VPI = 8
VCI = 35

Service Category = UBR without PCR
(don't need to tick 'Enable Quality of Service' at bottom of pg.)

click Next -
tick PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
Encapsulation mode : LLC/SNAP BRIDGING

click Next -
Put in username / pwrd of ISP
Service name will be your main a/c ("Afrihost'') - just type the name in
tick "Obtain default gateway automatically"
tick "Keep alive PPP Connection"
LCP Echo : 30
IP Frag low : mine's 4096
IP Frag high : mine's 1024
IP Frag time : 5

tick Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports.
MTU : 1492

Next
tick : Enable NAT & Enable Firewall
tick : Enable WAN Service
Service name shd be : pppoe_0_8_35
Next, then Save.

IN LAN SETTINGS, mine are :
IP Address : 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

tick 'Standard Mode' under ''Enable IGMP Snooping"
tick 'Disable DHCP Server'

These are the basic settings - anything more complex someone else will need to help with.

May be worth speaking to D-Link to send you the latest software version for your model.
I got it at the time I was busy with half-bridge, and unzipping the file etc. wasn't difficult.

Dude, I really want to say thank you for going to the effort of replying (twice, nogal!). Unfortunately the DSL-2750u menu is a lot different to what you describe BUT it did get me scrutinising my setup page, and I found this neat little bitty:

PPPoE pass-through

With that enabled, it works in normal PPPoE mode! I now have a default account set up on the router and can still use personal / work-related PPPoE connections too!
