20Mbps and 40Mbps VDSL rollout concerns

You don't have months to fix it. Fit it now! Odd that it worked in the trial areas.
 
Sounds like they are betting on fixing it before they start to look stupid with lots of boxes doing nothing...

I guess if they continue the rollout it shouldn't be of too much concern, providing they find a solution.

EDIT: weren't people complaining of lots of boxes but no service a few weeks back? The only activated areas are the original trial zones..?
 
Yip, issues in my suburb. Voice and adsl dead for days. Got adsl and outgoing calls back but no incoming (last I checked).
 
It is understood that Telkom and their contractors continue to install the MSAN and ISAM units, but they will not be brought into service until the softswitch problem is resolved.

Glad to hear they're at least continuing to install the units.

Edit: BTW what is the difference between MSAN and ISAM?

yeah sounds like it, probably inter-operability issues between vendors?Perhaps one isnt sticking to the standards....you can guess which one took the shorcut
 
If your rollout schedule is "sometime" you'll always be "progressing according to the plan"
 
Why now suddenly a problem, was the "trial" not suppose to iron out issue?
 
Am not worried so long as our town is getting the upgrade as planned for 2014 :D.
 
It is a pity they can't be open about what the issue is and what vendors are being used, since there isn't really any direct competition. It would be really interesting to know more about the implementation and any issues (like this one) that are preventing progress. I am wondering if the vendor oversold functionality or things were not properly planned.

Argh, this might be the reason an Alcatel box appeared on the curb next to the old green/blue Telkom box a couple of months ago, but has made no difference to congestion. Can only hope that when it gets resolved and they're able to turn a number of these things on, it solves lots of peoples problem in one go.
